Setting up uTorrent for Sat Internet. Empty Setting up uTorrent for Sat Internet.

Post by Guest Sat 22 Sep 2018, 01:28

I have Hugesnet for my internet provider......don't laugh!

That was the only way to get internet where I had to evac to from Hurricane Harvey last year....

How do I set uTorrent up for it and what are the steps? I did follow the guide, but don't seems to get any incoming connections or it flips from me having some, but it then flips to not having any....

Anyone out there could help me?

It should work out of the box. I googled a bit and found post from 3 years ago saying Hugesnet doesn't block P2P traffic (torrents and such), but it has reduced priority. You could try using VPN, not sure if that would help.

On the side note I don't recommend using uTorrent. At least not newer than version 2.2.1. There are other, ad-free torrent clients like Tixati, Transmission, qBittorrent to name a few.

Adding to what anadius suggested...how exactly is your computer connected to the internet? I'm assuming you are either using a wireless connection or an Ethernet (LAN) cable. So you should have some sort of router or modem, which redirects the "stuff you do on the computer", to the actual internet. That's of course a very simplified way of description.

What is your router/modem model name or number, are you able to google information on it? Does your Internet provider even allow you changing any router/modem settings (not all do that)...?

Edit: I'm guessing your problem is not (only) related to the actual uTorrent client, but mostly to router/modem settings.

Setting up uTorrent for Sat Internet. Empty Hmm..

Have a Hughes HT2000W modem (w/built in router?)

What steps should I do to try and get it to work with downloading torrents?  Also, would Bit Torrent be good to use and what versions should I use, the latest or an earlier one?

Can someone walk me through setting up rules for IVP6 on my modem/router?

Did some research and found that section and want to get this issue over and done with before I lose it.....

Sorry for the belated reply,

I found this here (see page 33 onwards):
https://www.montanasatellite.com/wp-content/uploads/hughesnet_ht2000w_satellite_modem_user_guide_1041264-0001_a.pdf

If a password is needed to log into the router, check any documentation that you have received when setting up the internet.

Not sure about the IPv6, but in my experience - and in addition to port forwarding - the firewalls that are built-in within routers/modems, often have the tendency to interfere with torrenting activities. So you could also try playing around with the firewall settings if needed.

Edit: turning off firewall settings in the router/modem can of course be risky in terms of security, so bear that in mind as well if you feel you need to edit these firewall settings.
