"The game failed to load" error in the middle of my gameplay

Hey guys, I have all the expansion packs and everything installed and so far everything has been working well. Today I was playing with my two university students and I travelled with them to a community lot, did a bunch of things, but when I try to travel back into their dorms, this error pops up. 

So I tried to exit the game and load it again and nothing changed. I removed my mods (not the cc that's hair, clothes and furniture, just mods that change the gameplay) but it did nothing. It's rather frustrating as nothing seemed to be wrong the previous two times I've played since installing university and I loaded the game fine just a little over an hour ago and now I can't get back in.

Okay, so I guess I fixed it? It seemed to be a faulty piece of furniture after I read that the University update also broke some furnishing CC. I put CC beds in the dorms because I needed my sims to get their energy up faster and at first my sim didn't want to get to bed but then she did, so when the error occurred my mind went to that. I had no idea that furniture could break the game.

Well, it just happened again. A very similar scenario. I'm in my house (changed the dorms to a different university housing and changed a few things there, but added no CC as far as I'm aware) go to a different lot and when I try to come back, it gives me the same error. 
I'll try removing my mods folder before the next time I play (I have no patience to fiddle with it now) just wanted to add that this stupid error seems to be popping up quite randomly, but only when I travel away from my home lot and then try to return.

See the emphasis (that I added) on the quote, in bold red. This is probably the crux of your woes, but I guess I'm not telling you anything new.  It would appear that due to various technical changes people have to overhaul their entire mods/CC-collection.
