I'm still having problems installing new expansion

I'm sorry for being ignorant but I still can't install the expansion correctly. I have a mac and I've followed the instructions in getting my disk utility and making a new folder .... I don't see the rar though....

Please help me? someone?

I had downloaded Showtime and unrarred it. But didn't copy the unrarred file and put it in the bin folder. I double clicked on the .app of Showtime - with the Sims 3 symbol but nothing happens. I haven't upgraded from 1.7 SCARED to. Since I can't place objects on tables anymore after upgrading.

I don't have any expansions.

am I supposed to do this below first?

One question. How did you unpack the files that were associated with the .rar?

Well the first one I unrarred was Town LIfe Stuff. I didn't do anything with them. I just tried to double click on the Sims3 Town Life Stuff installer and of course it never loaded. I was scared to move anything. I didn't know what to do first. Whether to do something with the Sims_3_fix_MAC.rar folder. NOT sure what to do first ... can you help?
