A questions about Seasons. Empty A questions about Seasons.

Post by Guest Sat 10 Nov 2012, 15:14

I'm sorry for seeming like a noob, but I have previously stated how I can't download torrents anymore because Comcast has caught me but I'm wondering if there's a way to mask it so I don't get caught? I downloaded the VPN thing from the pirate bay, but I'm not exactly sure how to use it and I'm scared to take the risk in case I get caught again which would be my third offense. WhatDidUJustCallMe? I was just going to buy Seasons but I'm going to have to wait until Christmas. I'm kind of new to the whole VPN thing. Crying or Very sad I wish I was able to get expansions from mediafire. haha

The VPN isn't actually from The Pirate Bay.

From what I read, and trying to keep on top of, is a free VPN that actually does cover torrent downloads, since I know a VPN I used had DOES NOT SUPPORT TORRENTS, or something, but it was just one little article in their forums.

But I got encryption's and such on with my utorrent, no idea if that is helping, but not sure what else I can do, if my ISP really wants to find what I'm downloading, nothing I can do to really stop them, just make it a bit of a issue for them.

Thanks that has helped a little bit. Smile I just didn't want to end up downloading thinking the VPN was going to help and then end up getting caught again.

Yeah apparently. They started doing it in 2011. D: Though I think the times I got caught, I was seeding for a long time and I usually don't. I don't know if that was my problem on how they caught me or what. I heard some people say if you immediately cancel seeding, you shouldn't get caught but I'm so scared to take the risk.

Unfortunately I think they are. I'm sure she can use a torrent client, but some ISP's in the USA are vigilant about preventing people from downloading illegally. And since it is a crime in a lot of countries they do, unfortunately, have every right to monitor it. A lot of countries have disallowed the use of, for example, The Pirate Bay. Which means every ISP in my country is supposed to block the site. I believe they all do. Not that it matters much since we can use a lot of proxies, but ok.

It may be an outrageous comparison, but they also have every right to block child pornography.

It's much, much worse in some countries. Some countries won't even allow Google Laughing

I am thankful my country isn't that extreme. Wink But I think I might just go to the library and download it from from there.

I have hear that this works.

http://www.gtguard.com/

it is recommended by the place where I get my **** torrents. I have never used it however as I live in Canada who pretty much does nothing if you are downloading torrents. So unfortunately I cannot comment on how it works. But it is something you could look into.

Our country would be a nice example. Facebook, twitter, youtube, thesimsresource, sometimes google, google plus, xbox.com, bing, many sims CC sites & many many more sites (90% of all sites) are filtered here mostly for political reasons. So we have to pay 2 USD each month to get secure VPN or SOCKS. Sad

Is it really THAT bad in the US, Andrea ?
If it really were, that would be horrible Evil or Very Mad. Why I am asking ?

The thing is: in theory, it would be a tremendous amount of effort to prosecute EVERY kid (or adult Very Happy) who downloads something illegally (they could of course, on the other hand, just randomnly choose a few 'unlucky' ones and prosecute them to 'set an example'). What would be more realistic for authorities, in my opinion at least, is to focus on those who SEED a lot. In this sense you're right, cancelling the torrent after you finished downloading might reduce the risk a little bit - though you can be caught too. I would be careful when downloading especially 'popular' games and movies, because these torrents are likely to be those which are closely watched by ISP's.

I'd like to stress that what I described applies mainly to Europe (I've never heard of someone being prosecuted in Europe because of just downloading something). This means that the situation in the US or elsewhere might be different...

Hope I could give you a few useful thoughts Smile
See you!

That gives me a clearer mind haha. The only two times I got caught was when I believe left my torrent seeding. I have always immediately canceled but I felt like it was a little bad to do it. Thanks so much Smile

You can use "Hide My IP". It's free for 14 days. (I think 14)
Works well and is easy to use and understand. And of course, most importantly, works.

Wow! Internet censorship in USA??

I never lived there, but I used torrents from hotels with no issues at all.

I lived in Canada for half year, UK and Sweden. I never had any issues related to censorship.

I would advise you to go on your internet service contract, and if you can, even check if the laws allow them to do such controls and invade your privacy (they have to check what you are doing to know you're using torrents).

Usually, internet providers don't want you using torrent because that way you use their resources, which cost them money, I am not sure if they give a damn thing about piracy.

If the law in your state allows that, and if your internet provider has that kind of restriction written in your contract, you have to pay for a VPN, so they can't go inside of it, as it's a PRIVATE network.

Of course, you will spend more and your internet won't be as fast as it would without it. But at least you will be able to download whatever you want.

Internet without torrents just s*ck!!! I download TV Shows and even legit freeware all the time using it!

Ah, look into another providers, maybe you can change to another company that does not restrict your use like that. It may be even worth paying a few extra bucks for the freedom!

Omg, you are a life saver! I am trying the trial and it does work. The only downside with the trial is pages load superrrr slow, but I can deal with that. Thank you so much. Very Happy

Ahh yes, that happens to me as well.. I believe because the site its self is being bounced around signal to signal, instead of coming directly from your ISP.. Don't quote me on that, but that is what I believe is happening with that.

And you're very welcome! Very Happy

If you want to know how it is in germany. You need to be a lucky person, if you want to download torrents via µtorrent. I thinkt 10% get cought by up/downloading torrents (me not so far), but you know, I live in a not very popular city in Germany and we have an other problem then illigaly downloading here in our country, the Euro.

Umm, works with? Internet browsers, yes, torrent clients, no. My source? http://www.hide-my-ip.com/compatibility.shtml Which only stands true for the premium, so even less for not premium.

What you download to won't really matter, your still transferring data from online to your computer, and your computer is saving it to the portable harddrive, only difference between that and normal is the non-portable/portable part. So probably just haven't downloaded something flagged by them as illegal.

I don't know if ComCast is the only ISP that does this, but I live in the USA too and I've been using uTorrent for years, never had a problem. I have a different ISP though. Maybe it's just a ComCast thing? I use Time Warner Cable, but I've also had Verizon and AT&T, and none of them have EVER sent me anything like that.

I used to never have an issue but I looked up an article saying it was a law that went into effect or something in late 2011 to crack down on pirating.

I really want to download Seasons but I'm not sure if the hide my ip thing will work now. :/

I'm sure it's the same for your friendly neighbours in The Netherlands.
But, I couldn't afford to buy The Sims 3 and all EP's before the Euro either so I'm less bothered with that than anti piracy laws myself.
besides, there's no going back so there's no use crying over spilled milk.

Anti-piracy laws/ file sharing laws are bullshit anyway.. If I buy a bag of candy, no one should be able to tell me who or who I cannot share with.

Just my opinion.

what alot of people fail to understand about the law is that its not illegal to download content. Its illegal to share content. that is the reason people get in trouble in the US. IPS can only chestize you if your caught sharing. i used to work for a isp.
