Sims Medieval Dark/Dull Screen Problem
Hello ,
I used to play both The Sims 3 & Medieval on my PC (Windows 7) but had to uninstall it because i was upgrading it to Windows 8.
I just installed it and I found out that both the game's screen is unusually very dark/dull. Nothing is clear. At first I thought it was a problem with my graphics card so I tried adjusting the graphics option both for the game and the monitor but nothing seems to work. I don't have any mods , tried applying the fix , ran it in compatibility mode .. arrgh I'm just going crazy lol

Hello,
Sounds like the same problem The Sims 3 initially had with windows 8. It has something to do with compatibility issues between your windows 8 graphics drivers and the game. If that's what it is.
Do you also have the expansion?

Hello,
Ok lets see if Admin or someone else has some insight in this matter and, hopefully, a solution.

Re: Sims Medieval Dark/Dull Screen Problem
It's a DirectX issue - from my own experience with older games. The game is wanting to use d3d9x or previous, which is fine.. but DirectX11 is what comes with Win8 and it is not backwards compatible. You could try finding a copy of the d3d9x dll file and tossing it in the game's executable directory to see if that fixes the issue. Otherwise the only solution is going back to Win7 (which I highly recommend anyway, Win8 is not great on the performance side for games) - at least until Microsoft or game vendors decide how to get their software working properly.
