What is Seeding?

I know it's a good thing and it helps downloads go quicker, but what does it exactly do? I've always been curious about seeding and leeching and never quite knew what it meant. Could someone fill me in please?

Well, let's clear it up then.
You see, there are Seeders and Leechers. Seeders are the people who have the file, that you are or you want to Download, for 100%. Leechers are the people who have párts of the file, but not the full file(s).

After you're a Seed (When you have 100% of the file you were Downloading), you can start 'Seeding'. It actually means that you're Uploading the file you Downloaded and other people are Dównloading it from you and the other Seeders.
When you just started Downloading the file, you were Downloading the file from all the other people who already had the file and if you're Seeding at the same time then you're also Uploading.

Here's something you can try; when you see a Torrent has júst been Uploaded, Download it and go to 'Peers' in your Bittorrent Client. You'll see (If right) only 1 Seeders and that's the person who just Uploaded the .torrent file to the Internet. It says "100%" at his / her name.
