sims medieval .net framework failure Empty sims medieval .net framework failure

I downloaded Medieval and Pirates and Nobles from G4TW, but cannot get past the step telling me to open the launcher and update the game because when I click the launcher button, I get:
"to run this application you first must install one of the following versions of the .net framework:
.netframework, version=v4.0
would you like to download and install .NETFramework,Version=v4.0 now?"

So I clicked yes, downloaded dotnetframework4.0, the installation software gets almost all the way through and then fails saying "the specified service does not exist as an installed service."
The log reads:

OS Version = 6.1.7601, Platform 2, Service Pack 1
OS Description = Windows 7 - x64 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1
CommandLine = C:\7f3957d0de4acf8e511a595dc4243fa8\\Setup.exe /x86 /x64 /ia64 /web

.
Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x00000424), "The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
" (Elapsed time: 0 00:00:34).

When I use the .exe file that bypasses the launcher (TSM.exe) i get an error "Unable to start game. Service initialization failed 0x0175dcbb"

What should I do? I downloaded the medieval ultimate fix and tried that without much hope but not surprisingly it hasn't changed anything.

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply!
Please open Windows Update on your computer and let it search for new updates.
Download and install all available updates, including all Optional ones.

After installing all updates, restart your PC and then try again.
