Who says so? It still works fine for me.
If you mean the "Update game" error, that's a common problem with items from the Exchange recently.
As far as I can remember, it's caused by corrupt/out-dated downloads on the Exchange.

When I search for items via the page source looking for ".sims3pack"
nothing shows up on page

no, only a couple of them do

For as far as I know, those are not compatible with the latest game version then. We call them "corrupt".
I don't think there's a way to fix them yourself - the author has to update them.
