"DLC" is an interesting term.

Normally pirated Steam DLC works like a charm. I tried it for Just Cause 2, Sleeping Dogs, Worms Revolution and a friend tried it for Skyrim, worked like a charm.

The Sims 3's expansions are special though, even if Steam does acknowledge them as DLC (which doesn't matter since it has no Steam achievements), EA's software and your EA account won't, and you'll probably have problems logging in with your EA account if you can be bothered with that at all.

Just pirate everything, the only difference between a Sims 3 legal copy and Sims 3 pirate copy is a few brain cells that one works better and has less bugs... and the other is a Sims 3 legal copy.

Well I don't care about being logged on.. I never use those features anyways. But I already have Sims 3 installed, going back and pirating it sounds like a pain in the ass. So can I just download the "dlcs" and put it in my steam directory and bam good to go? I remember getting sims 3 ones to work were a bit different... but I remember this site had a guide somewhere.

**** 40 dollars for one dlc? I could buy like 4 steam games with that shit!

(also I'm concerned about the version of the game, my base game is fully updated, but if I download a dlc I feel that the two different versions can conflict..?)

Well, after Generations all the game updates are applied to the base game, not the expansions.

As for the pre-Generations expansions, they shouldn't give you any problems if you don't update them, but you should, reduces a lot of errors including the infamous "error code 12".

Ether way, even if you decide to keep the legal version of Sims 3 installed, you'll still have to crack it in order for the expansions to work.

I'd recommend just torrenting it all, as steam is a pain to work-around, if it even lets you.

Hello,

For as far as I know, Steam versions of The Sims 3 and its expansion packs are not recognized as separate games on your PC.
That means that if you have the base game installed via Steam, your PC won't recognize it and you won't be able to install any expansion packs, due to the "Install the base game first" error.

Won't be able to install expansions from other sources (disk, pirate)? Or won't be able to install expansions at all?

Hello,

No expansion packs at all, if you base game is installed via Steam.
Some modified pirated discs might work, but those will just mess up your Registry and it's generally recommend to use non-modified ones. (All Games4theworld versions of The Sims 3 are non-modified)

Hello,

You can also redeem your steam copy in Origin, but I'm not sure that you won't have to redownload it.

So EA has been selling broken games all this time?

Wait, don't answer that.

Hi there,

No, I wouldn't blame EA for this, it's something with Steam. Some games are recognized, others aren't, it's... weird.

And if you redeem it via Origin, I'm pretty sure you'll have to re-download the game. Both programs store their games in other folders.

Don't mistake my tone for reproach, but in all the time you've been waiting for an answer I think you could have downloaded and reinstalled everything Razz And you only need to reinstall the base game (right?).

As a matter of precaution I always set the installers to top priority and almost everything else to low priority, just so I don't have to install the stuff multiple times.

I'll look into what I need to do. but I'll wait for their new dlc i so desperately want...

So one final thing (doubt it.) I really just can't crack my base game and install the other cracked dlcs?... -__- I just don't want to have to uninstall everything and be like wait. Now what? It's been a while since ive done this. I mean, in theory, in my steam directory, I apply crack for base game, install other cracked dlcs and bam good to go Smile right? If I can't then my ONLY concern is transferring files from my existing game to new directory.. Which shouldn't be too bad... since 99% of it im sure is in docs

The ultimate fix kinda weirded me out cuz it's all like "without uninstalling everything..." so im like.. do I just apply manual patches, do it through launcher, or what xD or do ultimate fix? Razz

You can definitely update to 1.5 using g4tw downloads. Very Happy

Just use the manual patch (step 2) from this thread.

It's not required, exactly. It's just the up-to-date crack, so if you want to play the game and have it at the newest patch level (unless that patch was accompanied by an expansion of sorts, then the crack is included in that download), then you have to use either the fix's crack, a no-cd mod, or somebody else's crack. We just prefer you to use the former, as we can troubleshoot the use a lot easier. Smile

We should have it up within a few days. The longest it's taken was, since pets at least, I think 5 days. And Admin had a lot of other things going on then too.
