They tell us not to update but... Empty They tell us not to update but...

Post by Guest Thu 20 Jun 2013, 05:01

...We don't really have a choice in the matter. If we bugger up a game and have to re-install it, sucks to be us. Because the only way we CAN reinstall the game is if we patch the original game.

That being the case, is it possible to re-install UL without having to patch it? I remark on UL because it is most recent, but my biggest concern is Seasons. I can't install it, because it needs to be patched. Then when I copy the crack over from the Seasons folder and paste it into the Bin, the game crashes. When I bypass the crack, it says the disc cannot be found.

Is there any solution to this? The only way I was able to get games pre-Supernatural to work is that I have Supernatural from origin.

Hello,

Provided that you have enough filespace, it would be a good idea to actually backup older patches.

But after un-installing your games, you may google for the base game patch version 1.36 (= the one that came with "Diesel stuff", so before Supernatural). Or you google for the patch 1.42.130 (= the one from "Seasons"). Whatever patch you choose, you basically apply that patch when re-installing your stuff (never use the launcher for updating).

There shouldn't be any problems when you patch older expansions; the reason why we tell others not to update, is because the Ultimate fix has not been updated yet. But again, there should be no issues when updating and cracking older expansions.

This leads me to my next point: you should never use the cracks that are included in the expansions; only use the "Ultimate fix", available here: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t752-the-sims-3-ultimate-fix-should-fix-most-of-your-problems (just click on "click here to download the fix (PC)" - even if it says it's "not working" this means, again, that it has not yet been updated for the latest patch; the fix should be working anyhow in your case).

By the way: if you use that big "manual patch" for updating, it's enough to use the two files from the #crack sub-folder in the Ultimate fix (TS3W.exe + TSLHost.dll). These two files go into C:\Program files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin.

//EDIT

Keep in mind that when you install an earlier patch, you can (of course) only install expansions that were released up to the point of when this particular patch was released too. Example: you use the patch 1.42 from "Seasons". In that case, you can only install all expansion up to, and including Seasons. But you can't install "University" or the upcoming "Island Paradise".

Hello,

I've made my explanations as simple and comprehensive as possible (hence the longer text). Please, try using an older patch (google for them) and tell us how it went.

Yes, it was simple, which is why I want to save it. :)If it were too complicated, I wouldn't have been able to figure it out. I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to PC games, haha. I mean, with patching and cracking and stuff.

//EDIT

It says that I have to uninstall a previous version because it's already patched. This is most unfortunate, since I have the original version from Origin. I'm not keen to re-download it. Is there some way to circumvent?

Wait.. Perhaps if I apply  the FIX before patching it.. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.. Yeah.. The fix should be at least version 1.50.. Not sure how successful I'll be..*grumbles* Oh well, I'm still gonna try! They tell us not to update but... Icon_smile

You CAN update, just not past 1.50, which is the patch with University Life. So if you'd like University, or Seasons, you can patch to 1.50 using the manual patch found here.

Thanks buddy! :)I had to move the Sims 3 Install folder from the Origin folder so that it wouldn't be deleted after uninstalling Sims 3. Not wanting to re-download 5gb! haha.

And thanks for the info about UL. And updating past IP won't be a problem, since Ill hopefully be able to buy the game.

Unfortunately, moving the install folder to the desktop was worthless, as it only installed the 'Game' folder and the 'Support' folder. BLAH! Oh well, at least I still have Games4theWorld's version of Sims 3. Smile

Unfortunately, this didn't work.

I followed the instructions, however, when I try to launch Seasons, I get the following error, after updating, manually, to the Season's patch and copying the Ultimate Fix crack in the #crack folder:

Unable to Start Game

Your The Sims Base Game is incompatible with the current Sims 3 expansion pack. Please update your game via the game launcher.

When you said 'Big manual patch' did you mean the Seasons patch, or the Super Patcher? Because I don't have the Super Patcher installed.

Oh, okay. I actually had that downloading. It was marked as 'Super-Patcher', lol.

Thank you, Shamrock. Smile

Unfortunately, this still isn't working.

I have applied the patch that you both have mentioned, as well as the 'Sims 3 Seasons' crack in the folder provided by the fix, and I still get the notification that I cannot start my game. I'm about ready to just give up.

Thanks! Not too well, unfortunately. I still get told to update via the launcher, although I was cautioned not to.

I am also stuck on Step 11 for the guide, where it tells us to update via the launcher..

//EDIT

Could having uninstalled the base game without uninstalling the expansion packs, then re-installing the base game screwed anything up?

When using the ultimate fix, you only need to use the instructions for the #crack folder. The rest is for updating your game through the launcher. They're the original files for the expansions, and do absolutely nothing for your game, except for making it able to be updated through the launcher. Smile
