Newbie Confusion

Hello, I am new to the Sims and I bought the base game plus the Generations expansion pack. I never installed anything from here before and yesterday I spent my time researching on what to do. Sorry if this was previously answer but I am seriously confused about the difference between downloading and installing... I downloaded bunch more expansion packs and they are in my Downloads folder as torrents, but is that it?? Do I continue on to download the manual patch? Or is there something else I have to do before that step? Please help! I'm terrible at understanding anything technical(?).

But I wasn't sure if that was all or if there was another step between step 1 and 2, for installing.

if you open the expansion packs it give you an installation guide and how to install the game, and tell me i you have any problem because i'm currently have one

and if it says please insert disc then something is wrong

 Oh thanks, but when I try to open it, it asks what program I want to use to open it... Is there a specific I need to use?

i would get winrar, you can open the file with it, sorry about not putting link it won't let me

Thanks and it's not a problem, but can you tell me what version it is? I tried to start a download but found out that it was just a trial version...

  Tried opening it with Winrar but it said the archive is either damaged or in an unknown format??  going to try again...

 Yeah Winrar finished downloading but for some reason it isn't opening the expansion packs...

were did you download the expansion pack, off torrent? because if it didn't it wouldn't open until its downloaded

I downloaded it the games4theworld website, where they list all downloadable games

so it didn't download off of torrent, you got it from media fire?

(1) Apply the manual patch , which can be found here.
(1) Extract the expansion pack torrents via WinRAR ONLY.
(2) Afterwards, in the destinated folder where you extracted the .zip torrent in, double-click setup.exe.
(3) When asked for a serial code, open the installation guide inside the folder and copy and paste the serial code.
(4) The installation will be finished in seconds. Afterwards, copy over the #crack of the latest Ultimate Fix to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts (or Origin Games if you bought the base game via Origin)\The Sims 3\Game\Bin. The Ultimate Fix can be found here.

 Hello, I emailed for support yesterday night and got what I think is the solution. ....I needed to download utorrent. That is why I couldn't open the files. I am currently downloading the expansion packs right now so hopefully everything else goes smoothly. Thank you for your help(:
