Sims 3 University install thinks i dont have sims 3 installed

Firstly i downloaded the games4theworld torrent of Sims 3 University.
I thought i had managed to get this download to finally work for my mac, but when i tried to install it this message comes up: "This product requires and installed copy of The Sims 3. Please install the Sims 3 before installing this product"
I have sims 3 installed already, and i dont understand why it doesnt recognise that i do! HELP

no I bought it from the Sims 3 store, so its the original game

Have you applied the Mac version of the manual patch and the Ultimate Fix?

Hello all,

It isn't about apllying Ultimate Fix. It seems like something is wrong about updates or cracks, we don't know yet. Just check the post I wrote for latest information.

For what it's worth, I was getting this same error when I was letting it select just the Applications folder as the install location. When I manually set my "Applications/The Sims 3/" folder as the install location, it recognized that I had the game installed. I haven't tried running the game yet, but it at least let me install correctly.
