Stuck on New Game window.

I downloaded the Sims 3 installed it fine. Installed the pets expansion pack and updated it, then I used the fix for the disc 1 error. It worked, but after the loading screen for the pets expansion pack, where you pick your town and log in to your profile, there's no town to pick. I can click the drop down bar, but nothing is there. Same with the options, I click it and nothing happens. When I try to close the window, the screen goes black but I can still hear the music. So I have to end the task from the task manager. Don't know how to fix it.
