Constant "A serious error has occured" and "Error 16"
I'm about to get very annoyed, i installed all the games according to the guide, and applied the Ultimate Fix and updates.
3/4 times when i try to start a game, i get the "A serious error has occured while loading (insert city.world here)" error, I've gone through about 3 google-pages worth of websites and forum posts trying to fix it, but nothing seems to work.
Also, when i finally can load a city, and play for a while. When i then try to save the game, just using "Save" i get Error 16, pretty much all sites say "Just use Save As" but when i do that, while it seems to save properly. When i then start the game again, and try to load it, i get "A serious error has occured (insert save name.sims 3 here" again. Also, the background when i get the error is always really artifacted and blown out.
I'm on Windows 7 64-bit btw.
I tried buying Sims 3 on Steam, and it works absolutely fine, but there i don't have any expansions, so some help would be appreciated.

Re: Constant "A serious error has occured" and "Error 16"
BUMP on this because I'm having the same exact problem of saving and then when I want to play it again I get the 'serious error' message after it loads. That's with one of my families. My second family however, two members are in Egypt and when I loaded up the game again, their portraits all of a sudden have disappeared and they do not respond to ANY action I tell them to do not even to go home. I don't have the Error 16 problem.
I hope there's a solution out there. The two families I've been playing with I've played for months growing and adding things and right now I'm feeling VERY defeated knowing I may have lost both families or I may have to uninstall then re install everything. I rather do that then lose my families actually. I won't like it but if I have to, I'll do it.

Try seeing if there's a .backup file in your Saves folder, rename the savename.sims3 folder to something else, and rename the savename.backup folder to savename.sims3, that should help.
EDIT: A small update, I tried downloading a save online, and the EXACT same thing happens as with my own saves. So it look like the problem might be more of a loading issue, than a saving issue.

Alright this worked for me cause i did some looking around on google an saw that it might have to do with you virus scan so if you can disabled the real-time protection everytime you go play sims. This works for me everytime i load my game it loads perfectly fine.

Hello,
GussGrisWorld's idea is actually a practical solution to "Error 16". Another thing you can try is to "save as" instead of "save". Name the save with alternative name.
For "Serious Error has occured while loading [townname].world", I suggest you clear the following:
-CASPartCache.package
-compositorCache.package
-scriptCache.package
-simCompositorCache.package
-socialCache.package
-the contents of the folders "WorldCaches" & "Thumbnails"

Re: Constant "A serious error has occured" and "Error 16"
Sorry it took me so long to respond. Sadly, nothing worked for me. I'm just going to uninstall everything and reinstall. I know everything went haywire after I gave one of my families their own private island. That was the last thing I was able to do before things went downhill. Once again just wanted to say thanks.
