Manual Patch 0x80040702 Error. [SOLVED]
Hi there,
so yesterday I've learned that there's the new expansion pack to Sims 3 -- the Island Paradise. I downloaded it from your torrent. For a long time, I couldn't install it to start with (for reasons currently forgotten, but it was crashing before I even reached the serial code), so I also downloaded your universal fix. When I got to the point of updating the game, my Launcher said nothing was wrong with it. I tried launching the game (still without the Island Paradise) after that, and it crashed for no apparent reason. I thought it was about the updating, so I downloaded the manual patch from your site. And here's where fun starts. Upon launching the manual patch, it was all fine. As soon as it reached 100%, it crashed, with a message:
"Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL: DSETUP
Setup will now terminate"
I decided to ignore this message, silently hoping the installer had done its work after all (I'm a hopeful person, see), and ran the game. It spit an error:
"Unable to start. Please reinstall the base game."
Now, that's exactly the thing I'd love to avoid, since I have all the expansion packs available, and it would be horrible to have to go through all that again; so I kept trying, over and over: the fix -> the update -> error ignoring -> installing the IP. After about five cycles or so, I succeeded and the Island Paradise EP indeed installed itself. So I fixed it all up again, patched the game with the same error (again) and tried to open the launcher. The error message was the same. For kicks, I also launched the game from TS3W.exe file and it said:
"Unable to start game.
Your Sims 3 Base Game is incompatible with the current Sims 3 Expansion Pack. Please update your game via the game launcher." (Which won't run, either.)
I tried recracking the base game, to no avail. I redownloaded the patch and it did exactly the same. I tried applying the patch from the Support->Updates folder of the Island Paradise install, and it did it again. I am pretty certain it's not a problem with the patch or the fix. Maybe I just made a mess in the files and I should unistall the whole thing (oh, God, please, no) and try to reinstall the whole game with all the expansion packs from the scratch? Oh, I should also mention the base game was installed before I discovered your site, so it's a BlackBox torrent download. I run it all on Windows 7 and a computer that has never had any history of lagging with any game ever, so the incompability should also not be a problem. Before I tried installing the Island Paradise EP, the game was working fine, except for the fact it choked up on Sims' actions like an old Russian car, but that was most certainly because of the mods. Any help? Pretty please?

So, all of your games except for Island Paradise are blackbox? If so, that is probably 99% of your problem, if not all of it. Blackbox editions screw with the registry and are modified so much that they are not recognized properly by the system or any other expansions you try to install.

Oh, well, that would explain a lot. So I have to reinstall everything with anything BUT BlackBox? I mean, if I download a different joint torrent, will it work? I'm just not exactly fond of the thought of downloading a dozen things and installing them in a correct order.

Yes, it's a good idea to re-download all the stuff: http://games4theworld.org/downloads.htmlHarmoniaChimera wrote:Oh, well, that would explain a lot. And the thing with "installing expansions in the right order" is just a myth which is just not true.

But, um, can't I download a joint installation? I just found one that has all the expansion and stuff packs up to University Life, and isn't BlackBox. Will it work with G4TW's installation of Island Paradise? (I just hate the idea of twenty (counted!) downloads and installations one after another.)

If you download a "joint installation", then you can't use the #crack from "Games4TheWorld", I'm afraid.HarmoniaChimera wrote:But, um, can't I download a joint installation?
