Is it possible to have a roommate but not as a member of household? Empty Is it possible to have a roommate but not as a member of household?

Not really a problem as much as it is a question.  I have an extra bedroom in my house.  I want to have a roommate, but I don't want to have them as part of the household, you know where there portrait is above mine and I can take control.  Is there no way to have a completely autonomous sim that will share a house/apartment with me?  I see in university life you can have all kinds of sims in the frathouse...I want to do that but in my regular town.  Is there a way to do this?

Yes you can If you have university.All you do is pick up the phone go to real estate or where there is move out and click enabled roommate services the there should be another which states how many roommates you will have.

Another alternative get friendly with someone and there should be an option to ask to be roommate.

oh, haven't tried the roommate service at all, will give that a go.  the second one though, doesn't that make them a playable part of the household?  or maybe that was just when I was the boyfriend so they were part of the household.

will give both a try and let you know....thanks very much

edit: yes they work.  thanks very much that is great.  I have another related question but I am going to start another thread because although related it is separate.

//EDIT

Okay so I have my new roommates...woot woot

Now I want to be able to lock my doors from roommates and any guests they might have over, BUT, I want to be able to hire a maid and have them clean the house but also have access to my locked room....is there a way to do this?  I can't seem to bring up the maids name when I click on the door and choose the lock option and try to add people to it.

Moderator edit: you can stick to your original topic, especially if it's about (almost) the same thing.

the reason you cant see the maid in is because she isn't apart of household in any way and isn't really a real sim(Hard to explain)So sadly you cant do that,you could just get a butler and do it.

Okay then would Brunhilda work if I did this:

http://www.thesimsresource.com/content/view-post/post/24900/How%20to%20Get%20a%20Full-Time%20Maid:%20Sims%203%20Supernatural

this works I have tried it.  She needs a bed, but a simple cot in the laundry room is sufficient...or simply changing how she looks (she can be completely edited in CAS) and letting her go back to the coffin also works.

But I wonder if she will be able to get through locked doors, and, if she will still scare people (roommates) even if she doesn't look scary any more.  Will have to test it out to see.
