What do you guys think of The Sims 4 trailer? Did it meet your expectations?
I'm sure most of us have seen the trailer for The Sims 4. And well, I was very disappointed with what I saw. I was expecting more realistic graphics. Some say that it would look "freaky" or "weird". But I like realistic graphics. I mean when your trying to recreate life wouldn't you want it to look realistic? Makes the most sense to me.
I saw the trailer and instantly felt like EA took a step backward. To me it looks like a slightly better version of The Sims 2. I understand that EA is trying to make TS4 more "playable" on "lower end" PC's, due to the plague of problems with Sims 3, which is unbelievable how many problems have been caused. Even the best gamer PC's fell to it's knee's when trying to play on it's highest settings. I mean gamer PC's are quite expensive and well, your average person isn't likely to have one, just a basic browsing computer meant to browse the internet and play on "simple" games.
Although I do like the how there aren't any sliders in CAS although it looks a bit "tough". I don't like how in the gameplay I believe his name was Andre got "depressed" just because he heard a sad song on the violin. Like seriously? That does not happen. This is only going to cause problems for me. I really like how the Sims 3 look and how realistic you can make them look. I'm really dissapointed and don't plan on buying TS4.
I'm aware that these are the "preliminary" results and that there is still time to improve the way they look. But I mean if that's what it looks like in the end, then I don't plan on buying it. To me I'm not fascinated by the cartoony look, it's quite a turn off.
What do you think of TS4? Excited? Happy? Sad? Dissapointed?

Honestly, I hate the way it looks. I was really crossing my fingers for at LEAST some good looking textures! How can EA release this after seeing Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, and the latest Grand Theft Auto? Don't they know where the bar is now? You can't charge $70 for a game that looks absolutely AWFUL alongside games that charge about $60 on release. It's like somebody placed bets in the conference room. "New ideas? Are you kidding me? These chumps will buy ANYTHING!"
This is the most insulting thing since the iPhone C.
What's more annoying is that it seems like EA just markets to younger and younger audiences every time they release a new Sims game. Well, good luck with that, EA. If I had any kids, I certainly wouldn't buy them a $70 game knowing fully well that I had $500 worth of DLC to pay for down the road. I really wish they'd release multiple versions of every Sims game, it seems like that would be the most profitable. Just slap an M rating on the game you just made, upgrade your textures, add in more "grown up" appeal, and you can double your profits. I mean do they have a chimp in charge of the company or what?
I'm definitely not buying this. If I can get my hands on it for free, then I'll try it. But it looks like they've dumbed the sims down AGAIN. I miss TS2.

Hey there,
The thing with the possibility of moving a whole room including all furniture, etc. in it, looks good. I also expected the graphics to be "better", but indeed, maybe it has a little bit to do with EA wanting The Sims 4 to run on lower-end computers too ? I'm not sure, but that could be part of the explanation. I don't mind this "cartoonish" appearance, though. As strange as it may sound, this "cartoonish" appearance is what many simmers probably wish and expect (because it looks "friendly" ?). Which is why EA "sticks" with that.
//EDIT
And of course, I won't buy that game either. While some of the new features look good, I'm not sure if it's worth the money to "switch" from TS3 to TS4. But that's up to everyone else. I don't think that TS4 will "redefine" this genre of game, meaning that on the whole, this game won't introduce too many "innovative" and new features, compared to TS3. But that's just my opinion - and probably I set my expectations too high, lol. Let's see how this develops.
While I will download TS4, I will most likely stick with The Sims 3, when it comes to playing.

The sims in medieval look a hell of a lot better. I'm willing to give sims 4 a try but if it doesn't cut the mustard, I won't be buying any expansions they put out. I have reverted back to sims 2 because it seems it has just the right mix of everything to keep you happy and without the constant problems you get with sims 3.

Re: What do you guys think of The Sims 4 trailer? Did it meet your expectations?
My take on The Sims 4: Is that EA needs to slow the down and actually give me a "new and hot" game worth playing.
I remember playing The Sims and just being amazed. I was 11 years old back then and The Sims was the reason I became a techie nerd and a video game junkie.
I hit the age of about 15 and I heard about The Sims 2. It blew my mind. I mean, suddenly the game had dimension, depth, personality, everything was customizable. I played this game so much, I can't even begin to express it eloquently. I downloaded terrabytes worth of CC and so many mods that I ended up messing my game up more than once. Then I turned 20 and bam, The Sims 3 game out. I was put off at first. I was slower at getting this game mainly because it seemed as though the customising aspect was a little off. Back when it first came out and there were no 'slider' mods to adjust rather STRANGE proportions your Sims came with, TS3 Sim people had... pudding faces. I hated it. Not to mention, I couldn't even PLAY the game until I got a better gaming rig (PC). It wasn't until I got the game finally, that I realized there was a lot more to it than I suspected. I became rather impressed with it (also obsessed) and I still don't even think that I've done everything I can within this game! I can now appreciate the better graphics, the realism of everything within the game itself.
Now to present time, I hear about The Sims 4 and it just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. Mainly because, it seems too soon for them to be releasing something totally brand new. I mean, sure, they just finished releasing their last expansion pack for The Sims 3 but I mean, what the 'eff. Suddenly a BRAND NEW The Sims game is in the works, to the point of having a teaser video on Youtube? On top of that, The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 all brought fresh and fascinating dynamics to the new games themselves and they really made you feel as though there was an improvement with how they were making the games. The Sims 4 just feels like a recycled version of The Sims 3. If they add anything more in the way of, for example a larger "world", or better graphics, it means I'm going to have to throw my gaming laptop out the window and start from scratch once again - which is just downright annoying. If they add anything more in the way of customization content and Sims, well, I'm not quite sure what else they can do, aside from revamping the CAS screen as well as revamping and streamlining how you can build houses, etc.
I firmly believe that if they are going to dish out a successful game, they're going to have to hit hard in the area of really, REALLY changing how the Sims respond to one another and socialize. They're going to have to give us a ton of new interaction possibilities, just like they did when The Sims 2 came out (in comparison to The Sims).
To answer the OP's question, I feel more disappointed than anything. I've been a LONG time The Sims fan but they've definitely hit a brick wall this time with me. They need to actually spend more time making the games they throw at us, rather than quickly releasing things back to back to back. Everything to me, just feels rushed. I mean, the interactions and the "CAS" in The Sims 4 just looks downright crappy. In fact, the Sims within The Sims 4 look even less realistic than the Sims in The Sims 3! I mean, come on EA.
Either way, I'm not dishing out $50, $60 even $80 for a game that looks recycled. I won't support that and I won't support the game any longer, if that is the case. They still have time to "woe" me with further videos explaining how and why The Sims 4 is different/better than the past games, but I highly doubt anything they're doing to The Sims 4 will really impress me. I think EA's days of splendor with releasing new Sims games has come to an end - at least, this is my opinion.

Re: What do you guys think of The Sims 4 trailer? Did it meet your expectations?
I think the reason why they lowered the graphicsin Sims 4 is they can't handle the problems when the game gets complicated and creates new bugs with every update. So they think they should start with a low level. It's such EA'stic thought.
The idea of being able to create Sims without sliders is awesome, but of course they forget again to add the height... There is always one important thing they forget, always the same...
I have been playing Sims since it first came out, I think it was 2000 and I was a innocent, hopeful child. In time they showed us that they only care about money by making unnecessary "Stuff Pack" craps and trying to take money from every single detail they create. So I don't trust EA anymore.
But still, we'll see if they listen the players comments or not. I am not hopeful about that, and I am pretty sure not to spend a penny to this game.

Well well well, the reason why they don't add height "sliders" is that they don't want to, not because they have forgotten it (watched EA live broadcast and someone asked about it, genious that they have asked about it).Phoebe wrote:The idea of being able to create Sims without sliders is awesome, but of course they forget again to add the height... And I am in such a dilemma that I think The Sims 4 should be more graphic intense and realistic, however on the other hand I want a game that is graphic wise so that my pc can handle. Pretty conflicting and contradictory huh? Yeah, disappointed and satisifed at the same time...

It is even more pathetic then. They don't want to ass it because they don't want to customize the movement between short sims and tall sims, huh? Re: What do you guys think of The Sims 4 trailer? Did it meet your expectations?
I wouldn't say they don't want to because of customizing movement. In all honesty, there are sliders for The Sims 3 that adjust height and yet there are no custom animations?Phoebe wrote:It is even more pathetic then. Chances are, they are not going to add it because of 1) laziness or 2) they just don't want to bother.
To me, that sounds fishy, considering they're going for "realism", right? They may decide to add it later on considering they aren't even CLOSE to finishing the game yet. Who knows!

I thought I was the only one who had an issue with it!!! You guys took all the words out of my mouth,I hate the fact that they try to appeal to younger audiences every expansion when we are talking about a game with *** and alcohol but they name it something else.
But about the sims 4 I was disappointing I really expected better graphics like this is 2013 It seems like there focusing more on cooler game play which isn't a problem but I also want to see looks.

I was VERY HAPPY with what they did with CAS and build/buy mode. Finally I can create the perfect sim! I was really happy EA has decided to put up a more simpler way. I didnt see any diagonal wall though. The Emotion system looked epic but the part where this dude got depresses by a violin was SO DAMN STUPID!!!
The graphics? I was a bit 'meh' because it seems pretty cartoonish and it seems like a phase between Sims 2 and Sims 3. But I wouldn't mind playing on those graphics.
Woohoo is a skill, Now is my time to shine
I hope they add some features from the Sims 3 EPs because I don't like to play an empty game after playing a game with a boatfull of features.
I would like to TRY it out, I don't really have much expectations for it. If it's better than it looks then I MIGHT switch over, otherwise I'll stick to Sims 3
(And if the SIms is becoming more "Child Friendly" then I'm definitely staying away)

I agree! I can see they are increasing the game play ways and making it more fun and realistic to play but I want my town and Sims to look like humans, not like the Sims on the phone or social.Beef sticks wrote:I was VERY HAPPY with what they did with CAS and build/buy mode. I actually like it
The only 2 things that I don't like are the emotions indeed the depressed thing is very weird and the hair styles... The look like one thing or so can't really explain it .
But untill it is ready to download are too buy for a good price I'm gonna enjoy the sims 3!

They've slightly improved on the world graphics(at least to my eyes) , but the sims look worse.
The sims look like clay sculptures and they don't have shadows...

I'm pretty dissapointed with it, especially with the graphics and the removal of CASt and the only feature that interests me so far is the new CAS. I'll just stick with my Sims 3 for a couple years, until some EPs have been released and there's a variety of CC available.

I agree because when Sims 3 came out CAS wise there wasn't that much good stuff so soon they may improve the game.Psychotic wrote:I'm pretty dissapointed with it, especially with the graphics and the removal of CASt and the only feature that interests me so far is the new CAS. No.... CASt? IMPOSSIBLE! ITS LIKE THE CORE OF THE GAME FOR ME! tbh im kinda excited mostly because sims 3 runs slowish on my computer and i have a higher end gaming computer. i mean i do have all the eps and most of the sps (excluding katy perry) but still.
it does feel like every game they just appeal more and more to children though. I mean renaming a lot of the things the way they did just made me cringe.
and lastly, i think the depression because of a sad violin song was mostly just to show the way emotions change in the game like depressed to sad, etc.
sorry if any of that sounds funny.

Everyone is wanting "more realistic sims" but that was what they were intending with the attitude and emotions the sims can now have. I admit I was a little disappointed with the graphics but I actually have a gaming computer. Maybe the sims 4 is going to be more computer friendly, such as actually being able to play it on a laptop I of course will not be buying the game without having tried it first. After buying EVERY Sims 2 game ever created I don't want to look at my bank statements afterwards. EA is starting to over complicate the sims and making it harder for the newer generations to enjoy.
I am an original Sims fan and I will of course support them (if the downloaded version is awsome I always got mine from games4theworld... just saying). I am ready to play the sims 4, but I will not say whether I like it or not until it has been played first hand. I have ALWAYS hated the EA Sims trailers lmao

Okay, I can dig the clothes/stuff/places that can make you feel better although I just don't get the violin part. I mean, could you deliberately play a sad song on a violin to embarrass another sim? That just sounds (pun intended) like manipulation with their emotions and I for one am not so sure I like that aspect of the game.
Making it computer friendly? As much as I would love to be able to play it on my laptop, somehow I think they'll find a way to mess it up. Still, hope dies last, right?
And then comes the graphics. Their faces and hair look like they're made out of.. i don't know, clay? plastic? Don't get me wrong, the hairstyles in the sims 3 are sometimes equally awful, but come on.. Not to mention that all of their clothes is pretty much the same as it was in the sims 3.
And then comes the neighborhood/house part. Okay, it could be tricky to get used to the grab and pull building mechanism, but when I saw those trees. That overly done/platform/softened/unrealistic/jungle trees. NO. Just NO. It took me a good while to get used to the unrealistic skies and fantasy add-ons like space colonies/witches/wolverines and such but I understood that they are there for people who wanted fantasy sims. I didn't and I was ok with it because they still let me play with the boring old realistic neighborhoods. This whole combining/mix-up thing just doesn't look nice or playable to me.
In the end, I will try it when it comes out and give it a fair chance, but won't regret going back to the sims 3 if i don't like it.

I'm hoping for the same that maybe after a few add ons and fixes it will look better ! I'm also hoping it wont run as slow as Sims 3 or maybe they can make it to where the add ons don't cause that to be a issue .

Sims 4?
It was nowhere near what I expected it to be. I found it very "unappealing".
when I first saw the trailer I really didn't see much of a difference between sims 4 and sims 2. It was ridiculously stupid.
Don't even mention the graphics!(ugh)
What's with the create a sim part?!?!
It's really disappointing that EA spent so much money for something that's not even worth it.
anyway make long story short; HATED IT!
