Usually automatic shutdown means overheating. Your pc's fan might not be working correctly and needs a replacement, or an additional fan.

A corrupt or sluggish Windows Registry may lead to the infamous Blue Screen of Death, deteriorated system performance or DLL errors, exe errors and some other mysterious errors.Download and install CC Cleaner and run the registry cleaner of it, and if the cleaner finds any problems, fix them all.

I remember there is a way to check what causes the shutdown, but I forget it and I will let you know if I remember how.

Also you can view the event log by right-clicking Computer in the Start Menu, and choose "Manage".

After that, double-click event log viewer and expand the tab Windows Logs, and then right-click "System" and choose "Filter Current Logs". Choose "USER32" as your event source and type 1074 in (All Event IDs) field. Hit enter and something should be shown up.

Also, in very odd cases, mods/Custom Content can be the problem too. Can you rename the folder My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 to anything you want and restart the game to see if there are any differences?

Hello,

I was going to say what J.T. said!  He beat me to it.  Wink

Another thing to check is whether or not you have a dedicated graphics card.  If your PC/Laptop is running on integrated graphics, you might be in trouble and you'd want to be careful playing the game.  You can check to see if you're playing the game on a decent PC able to handle TS3 by going here and selecting The Sims 3 from the drop-down menu:  http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

I'll leave J.T. to help you though, as he's giving better advice than me as of right now.  Razz

Please do!

Oh and I forgot to mention if you want to check the event logs for unexpected shutdown. Do the same filtering again, but this time type 6008 in (All Event Logs) field and leave "Event Sources" blank.

Okay it was working, I was creating a sim but I saved and got off to do something. When I opened sims open the loading screen cut my computer off again.

What am I looking for after I put 1074 in the search box?
Oh and which folder should I rename?

Thanks for the help JT!

edit: ((The process C:\Windows\system32\winlogon.exe (CHRIS-VAIO) has initiated the power off of computer CHRIS-VAIO on behalf of user Chris-VAIO\Chris for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
 Reason Code: 0x500ff
 Shutdown Type: power off

According to my previous post, you should also give me the information of an event log. As far as I know, the event log you've shown to me is either manual shutdown with the reason code glitching Facepalm. Even Microsoft haven't dared to fix the gltich.

Can you, in the meantime, do what I have mentioned in the previous post (Filter with 6008 this time)?

As I have mentioned in my second post, rename the folder My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and restart the game.
