Launcher hangs when installng store updates

I downloaded a few of the new store updates last night as well as the latest world and put them in my Sims 3 downloads folder. I choose them to install from the launcher and the green bar moves about a inch and then hangs there. Any ideas on why this happens?

Hello,

Try installing less CC at once. It's a known issue when you install a lot at once. Try doing 10-20 at a time.

Thanks admin. I tried that last night. I was trying to install the new baby items and so I figured let me try just that instead of several and it still hangs.

I have exactly the same problem as the OP.

This has only happened since updating to 1.50. FYI I do have hard disk of all expansion & stuff packs except 70's, 80's 90's & University.

So I can download stuff fine but can't INSTALL any Sims3 packs. This happens to ANY sims3 pack whether from EA store, exchange, or from your mediafire account.

I posted about this problem on EA official site & was advised that "1.50 may corrupt base game files, please reinstall everything".

When I tried doing that launcher worked fine HOWEVER none of the downloads from your mediafire account (installed worlds, store updates, etc) would work, a lot of CC wouldn't show up & I couldn't play my saved games. In addition as another poster found those installed worlds were greyed out & screenshots requesting I purchase them showed up instead.

So I went back to my original setup & voila ALL my CC, your downloads & my saved games showed up fine. I can get into games & all plays fine. BUT the problem with Launcher installing hanging 1/3rd way through is back.

On EA forum there is implication that 1.50 includes something in it that detects & inactivates pirated downloads.

Is this true? If so HOW do we get around it?

Note redownloading & applying Ultimate fix, cracks & store fixes did nothing to help the situation.

But I've had no issues with 1.50 not allowing me to install the store items through the launcher. I would actually recommend downloading ccmagic, since it manages most cc (sims3packs & packages) without the launcher.

Yes I realise that however I understand CCMagic can't handle lots or worlds? Not to mention CCMagic is very time consuming compared to Launcher?

It's true that it can't install lots or worlds, but I don't see how it's time consuming, unless you want to sort out all of your downloads into different categories. If you just bulk them together, it's not really much slower, just for installing.

And isn't it better to have some of what you're trying to get than none at all?

I had NO trouble installing CC at all before 1.50.

Launcher is unable to instal anything at all from whatever source, from this site or others, or even from EA official site. Doesn't matter if I try to instal a single or multiple items, doesn't matter if the size is 7K or many MB the result is ... hanging at 20-30% mark.

I tried uninstalling the base game & reinstalling (as advised by someone on official site forum). It installed OK, it updated OK. BUT still had same problem with Launcher.

No worries. I finally have a playable game with all my expansions, stuff packs, store content, mods, CC & your downloads installed and all seems to be showing up as far as I can tell. Also have a working Launcher too (in a fashion). I had to do a LOT & it was time comsuming. For others benefit I will post what I did.

Note I had already ininstalled & reinstalled Sims 3 original game (can do in isolation) & reapplied your fixes.

I now have a playable game with all my expansions, stuff packs, store content, CC installed & seems to be showing up as far as I can tell.

It took a long time heres what I did
- I sorted ALL my considerable CC into subfolders so I could locate easily any suspect ones to uninstall (note I haven't had to uninstall any thus far)
- I did factory reset
- then had to redownload & reinstall all store, free, bonus, limited, collector edition content as that had disappeared
- then installed in subgroups ALL my CC content (except lots & Sims)
So far so good.

Then went to install CC lots. Back to same old problem with Launcher hanging at 20-30% mark. So I transferred all my lots from my original game (by copying & pasting Library files). All those lots were showing up fine in game.
Had same problem with Sims but got around that by copying my installed Sims file from original game. Again all Sims showing up fine.

I then restored my save games, my ini & preset file & my mods file. Checked & played quite a lot all were showing up fine in game.

Periodically checked to see if Launcher would work & then suddenly one day it did! Was able to install almost all outstanding Lots when it started acting up again.

Went back to playing & again one day Launcher decided to work again. Installed all outstanding Lots. In addition as a test I downloaded some more CC lots & other items. Again some installed the Launcher acts up. Went back to Launcher after a few days of gameplay & voila it works this time.

My conclusion? Something in 1.50 has definitely corrupted some base game files PLUS it has done something to the Launcher. It is now unreliable BUT will work eventually.

As an aside it made NO difference whether I delete cache files, remove Mods file or not, install a single or multiple files. I do not have a firewall enabled nor do I have any Antivirus/Spyware installed as I have the game installed on an isolated system purely for playing the Sims. I must also add this was not the first time I tried a factory reset, however, this time it did the trick.
From now on I will only be installing updates manually & on a completely fresh install (while saving current setup). I now backup Library, DC Cache, installed Sims, Cache, ini & presets files after every install of new items. So will not have to reinstall ALL my stuff ever again!!!!

I also have not had a problem with corrupted or hung saves YET. I occasionally did before but no doubt this will reoccur. I have come to see that as ‘situation normal’ for Sims. As is the need to occasionally have to abort startup due to hanging during loading the game. I simply stop it through Task Manager & try again.
One more comment. Update 1.50 was supposed to fix a number of things including Sims turning 180% before going correct direction through doorways. Not in my game it hasn’t!!!!
Haven’t checked all the other things it was supposed to fix as yet. Bet there’s more it hasn’t done as claimed!!!
