i have an extreme silly possibly dumb question... 
whats with the store updates? what do they do? are they just extra items? do i need them?

Store updates are extra items. It could be clothes, hairstyles, furniture, wallpapers, floors.
You don't need them, but they're nice if you're tired of looking at the same old items.

As far as I know not, since these are Official Store Updates, which means they are spread by EA itself. (So it would be a little bit odd when it causes problems to occur with your game)

As far as I know not, since these are Official Store Updates, which means they are spread by EA itself. (So it would be a little bit odd when it causes problems to occur with your game)
Still, with EA, you never know. The spellbook was giving people -minor- issues as well.
