Sims 3 crashes on start up
Hello!
I recently re downloaded all of the sims games from here up until Into the future. ( I used the disc forms of Late Night, Base game, Ambitions, and World Adventures though.) I went through the download instructions step by step, applied the manual patch and the ultimate fix. I uninstalled everything and tried reinstalling and applying the patch and fix again with no luck. I then tried all of the tips from https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t14295-ts3-black-screen-nothing-working-solved that seemed to work for others but had no effect for this black screen of death. As soon as I try and launch the game through the TS3W.exe it goes to a black screen and crashes a few seconds in with a pop up saying "Sims 3 has stopped working" which I then have to close the program. I'm not sure what else to try because I've looked everywhere for a possible fix. This is for my new laptop I got a month or so ago- Lenovo ideapad y410p with windows 8. I never seemed to have problems with these downloads on my old laptop. If there is anything you all can help me with I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again in advance!

Hello,
The problem in the topic you linked to and your problem are completely different.
Have a look at this topic here and try all steps:
https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t857-the-sims-3-crashes-freezes-to-desktop-fix-updated-on-7-01-2014-updated
When you're at step #3, download that "4 GB patch" and then double-click on it. Then choose the TS3W.exe in your Sims 3 base game location, usually C:\Program files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin.
Wait for the message "executable successfully patched" and close the 4 GB patch. Note that this 'method' ONLY works if your Windows is a 64-bit version AND if your computer has 4 GB of RAM or more.
Good luck !

Re: Sims 3 crashes on start up
Thank you for the incredibly fast reply! I will try all of these out now! I will reply with any news!
//EDIT
Update: I tried all of those steps and it doesn't seem to have changed anything. I still get the black screen for a few seconds and then it crashes. Also- I noticed that the resolution has changed on a program I had running in the background the first time I tried launching sims 3 with the new tips- maybe that could signify something that is wrong? If you have anymore tips I would greatly appreciate them!

Please use the "edit"-button on your post to update the message, instead of double-posting.
What are your system specs ? Especially your RAM, the GHz of your processor(s) and info about your graphics card. And what kind of program is that, that was running in the background ? If it's not necessary, close that program.
You can try using GameBooster (look on Piratebay) to increase the performance of your game. The program itself should be pretty self-explanatory to use, but maybe another Helper knows more details about it, since I personally don't use it that often (despite many positive feedback from users on it).
Generally though, keep in mind that most laptops aren't made for "hardcore-gaming", and The Sims 3 with its expansions is a highly demanding game, in terms of computer resources. Some laptops might have severe trouble with that "load", but let's see.
Keep us updated !

Re: Sims 3 crashes on start up
Hello again,
As 'stupid' as it may sound, are you sure you are using the LATEST Ultimate fix, along with the latest manual patch ? In case of doubt, re-do the steps from #2 to #4 here: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t1171-must-read-how-to-install-the-sims-3-correctly
Please follow these steps as precisely as possible.
Also, go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and look for the file Options.ini. Open it with notepad and look for the line fullscreen = 1. Change the "1" into "0" and SAVE the changes to that file, when you exit that Options.ini file. This should allow you to play in "windowed mode". However, this suggestion is more a guess, but still try that too.
Plus, can you try lowering the resolution of your computer screen and then re-start the game ?
Keep us updated, but if you still can't get the game working after that, I'm unsure.

Re: Sims 3 crashes on start up
After uninstalling and reinstalling once again- and using the new links you gave me, the game still will not work. I'm guessing it just has something to do with the game not recognizing the graphics card or something because I'm not sure what else the problem would be. Thanks for all your help in trying to fix this, I guess sims 3 is just not meant to be played until I can figure out what else there is to try. haha
