Kaspersky Internet Security question... Empty Kaspersky Internet Security question...

Post by Guest Tue 25 Feb 2014, 15:13

Hi all, hope this is in the right forum.
Just a quick question, my mate gave me a free legit key for Kaspersky Internet Security 2013. He gets about 4 a year.
If i wanted to update to the 2014 version, would i be able to use the same key? Or would he have to give me a new key?

Any info is appreciated   Smile

Thanks.

OSG.

Hello there,

Usually a Serial Code for anti-virus software gives you updates for the program for as long as your license is valid.
For example, I upgraded my G Data Internet Security to the 2014 version a while back, all with the same license.

You should check this with your friend though, since it might be some kind of "special" license, that is only valid with the 2013 version.

And if you have some spare time, why not try it? Just remove everything related to Kaspersky first: https://support.kaspersky.com/common/service.aspx?el=1464 (Uninstall the program the normal way first, then use this tool to remove all leftover files)
Restart your PC afterwards!

Then just install version 2014 and try out the key you have. If it works... well, have fun! If it didn't work, then just stick to 2013 or contact your friend for more information. Razz

A small thing to add: it's becoming more and more common though that serials that "used to work" will NOT work anymore, once you update the program itself. Kaspersky seems very picky on that, like most other of the big "security" software companies (Norton,...). I once had Kaspersky Internet Security myself, and my pirated license got blacklisted pretty quickly.  Sad   Razz

@Admin: I know he use to have 2013 installed, but reformatted his HDD and just re-downloaded Karspersky BUT 2014. He used another serial he had. These are legit serials, as he gets them, well its in fact the same serial for upto 4 pc's, from his bank each year. I asked him, but he used it al up now on my pc + 3 others Sad lol. So i may as well just stick to the 2013 version for the next 130 days lol.

@Carlos: Thanks for the heads up mate.

Hello there,

Indeed, that's with pirated licences, but the way OP explained things, I assumed these were retail keys.  Very Happy

You can uninstall 2013, install 2014 and then re-activate the old license...(?)
That should not be an issue at all.

Because the key is the same for all 4, i would of thought that, even if i did un-install it and installed the 2014 version the key would of been used 4 times?

I may as well just stick to the version i got now lol.

Thanks for the replies though mate Smile

Hello,

I'm not sure how the licenses for that AV work, but with G Data, I used to have a license on 3 PC's.
I activated it on 3 PC's and then tried to activate it on a 4th PC. It would say something like: "The license has already been activated on 3 other PC's bla bla. Would you like to move the permissions to this PC?" and then I could just "reactivate" the license on that new PC. It would be deactivated on one of the other PC's though, but I could just repeat the process on the "old" PC.

I don't think that it's impossible to (temporarily) deactivate a license on one PC and then "move" it to a new one. (Or deactivate it, reinstall the new version and then reactivate it, which has the same effect)
It's worth a try. If not, then just stick to 2013. Razz

Is there anything else we can currently help you with? Very Happy

Hi there,

I'll keep this topic open for you, please let us know the result and whether you were brave enough to actually do it. Razz

Me? Not really, lol, but I'm more active in the e-mail Support nowadays. But (almost) daily on the Forum to do the administrative stuff and helping in the non-The Sims 3 sections.

Glad to hear you like what we do here! Very Happy
