Hi there,
Welcome to the Games4theworld Forum!
You should see an option to just ignore that error and continue using the software. You can always run it in "Windows XP SP3" compatibility mode, if necessary. (Right-click on the .exe file and choose the "Compatibility" tab)
Keep in mind that that version of AVG you downloaded is pretty old. I recommend that you consider getting a newer anti-virus, or even Microsoft's free "Security Essentials".
Version 9.0 should technically still work fine though. (As long as you can update the signatures)

Do you have a screenshot of the error? I can't imagine the OS "forbidding" you to use that software at all cost.
Microsoft Security Essentials is just an option. You can always torrent a newer version of paid software. MS Security Essentials is very basic, but it does its job. You can also try Avira! anti-virus software. They also have a free version.
Other than that, I also recommend Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.0, which is not really an anti-virus scanner (unless you buy a license), but it's a good prevention software.

Re: AVG Internet Security 9.0 compatibility problem [SOLVED]
Hello,
I mean, if you really want to give it another shot, right-click on the .exe of the anti-virus program (or the desktop shortcut of it) and select "troubleshoot compatibility". Follow the on-screen instructions and then choose "use recommended settings" - or whatever the exact wording there is.
If that still doesn't work, you will indeed have to look elsewhere for a newer version.
