Cannot install expansions

I've been trying to install Generations and Island Paradise for a while now with no success. I click the installer and it won't open. I then used Stuffit Expander (as I read in another thread here) for opening the rar file and I get a message of: "Could not verify the integrity of the installer, click ok to close".

I have the base game installed plus Ambitions (both bought DVD versions). I have also tried to update to the latest version with that manual patch but can't download it completely (starts and then stops at random %), so I am stuck at version 1.22.

I'm not sure if the ultimate fix will do anything as I don't have any of the expansions it says I need for it to work.

I am almost giving up at this time and any help at all would be much appreciated. The most frustrating part is that I have previously downloaded games4theworld sims stuff and always worked perfectly. I have no idea what to do now.

I've been trying to update via the launcher but it stops in the middle of downloading 

I'm just going to play with Ambitions for now because I've done everything that guide says and I can't make it work

Have you tried the manual patch?

I have tried to download the manual patch too many times but as it is a big file (several GB) and apparently my connection blows, I haven't been able to  I was looking for a torrent file of the patch but haven't found it.
