It's installing as an object not a world. How can I make it install as a world?

Do you still need help with that ? Try this then: go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and delete the compositorCache.package file. Next, re-install the world with the launcher. Does it then show up ?

After doing that solution, you'll basically have to re-install all your .sims3pack files. Keep in mind that you shouldn't install "too many" .sims3packs with the launcher at once; so install the .sims3packs in small bunches.
