Sims 3 installer not working

I click to open the base game and it just bounces and then closes. I have read all the guides/the forums and nothing is helping me. I am not much of a computer person so I am not sure why this is happening.

Now I created the .dmg files for the expansion packs, but the installer won't open. I also tried to use the .exe but the unarchiver is now the default program which won't allow the .exe to run. I am stuck!
