Some packages not appearing in buy/build Empty Some packages not appearing in buy/build

Post by Guest Tue 05 May 2015, 02:39

I have a problem with a few .package files not appearing in the game, since it is only these few I assume we can rule out issues with the basic game and folder structure. I have deleted the five cache files, to no avail; have returned to the download pages to double check if a particular expansion was required; and have removed the files, downloaded again (from a different source if possible), and reinstalled. I've scoured the internet but found little beyond threads complaining of a global issue of disappearing content after a game update some years ago.

(Also, I have tried half a dozen spiral stair mods and none have appeared in the build menu; the last - Wendeltreppe_Bella - was recommended as definitely being stand alone. None are installed now. And I do not want to install UL just to get spiral staircases.)

These are the current offending files:

Volume in drive C:\ is
Directory of C:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages\

Bloom_StorageUnits.package 69 KB 11/28/2012
Carlos small wooden bridge.package 1473 KB 3/1/2011
DaraS_KitchenHood1_210514.package 5569 KB 5/21/2014
DaraS_KitchenHood2_210514.package 5577 KB 5/21/2014

43 file(s)
Total filesize 132423 KB
27.77 GB free

The two kitchen hood files are part of a set, all the other files (stove, refrigerator, etc.) work fine.

Have you tried re-downloading them? It may be that the files are corrupted.

I briefly hinted at the following in my response to your other thread here in the Sims 3 in-game support.

Did you re-apply the manual patch any time, after putting in those .packages ? And did you really look carefully for these items in-game, to make sure they are in the categories they are supposed to be ? Sometimes (though rarely) items get "misplaced", and you have to look elsewhere (= in other categories) for them...

Thanks. I have not reinstalled the game or reapplied any patches or fixes, considering such to be "last resort" solutions when all other options have been exhausted. FWIW, only two EPs installed - Seasons and Ambitions - and no SPs.

The stove hoods were eventually located ... under "decorations" (?), and only appeared in the "sort by items" tab (don't mod creators for this game believe in including a simple readme with their files). The bridge, from screenshots apparently a footbridge not a road bridge, and the storage units (shelves on which you can actually place things) have never appeared (I tried a different such shelf which did appear, though I've yet to decipher how to place anything on a shelf ...again, no readme).

I finally found a couple of spiral staircases which work, though both have an odd graphic issue - when viewed from above the opening is covered by floor tiles (which do not match the surrounding floor). Is this "normal"?
