Worked on windows 7 but not on XP Empty Worked on windows 7 but not on XP

Post by Guest Wed 21 Oct 2015, 21:34

Hi there, I have a strange one. I did install everything as instructed on tmy Laptop, which has a crappy graphics card, and managed to run the game, everything is there and works 100 %
But having a much better Graphics card on my old and trusted Desktop which basically only has games on it, I wanted to install the game there. I copied all the necessary .rar files to my external hard drive and connected to desktop. The OS is still XP professional, service pack 3.
I did everything as I have done on the Laptop, following the instructions to a T. ( That Desk top computer is not connected to the internet and never had Origin installed. ever. Virus protection and firewall not active.) Fired game up and got Origin not running error. Than I changed the order of installing. First the fix, than the Going to work  pack. It loads perfectly, but no Newcrest, and all the Items from stuff packs missing. ( Hottub, Spa . half walls etc ) Now I moved the game completely out and to the external harddrive. Same error.) removed everything and started from scratch, this time using the fix from sim architect. Same problem. Than I thought I was clever  conected the harddrive to the laptop and ran it from there. It started perfectly, but used the existing Sims 4 files on ( Documents )from my laptop game. :$::$: The start up shortcut referred to the F drive, ( external )So I renamed every single Sims 4 file on the c drive and in Documents, it created a completely new sims 4 file in Documents with everything there and available. But the minute I use that same game file to run it from the external drive on my Desk top, it will not start. Sad So I have now again installed the getting to work on top of sims architects fix and it does start, but again with everything else missing. Does any one out there know what is going on? that is if you understand what I am trying to explain:) Help

Hi again! Sorry for my belated reply...

Cookie from Carlos Cookie from Carlos

First, I am not sure the game works without an internet connection (I might be wrong, but I remember trying something like that when The Sims 4 came at first, not sure if I blocked in my firewall only or if I turned the entire internet off and the game would not work).

You don't need Origin, you may have an anti virus without knowing. Please check, even though Windows XP did not come with one, you may have one installed with another program that you downloaded, or even Microsoft Security Essentials.

Are you installing the game on your "C:" drive or on your External Device? If you have a small "C:" drive, please do some research on creating symbolic links.

You should not install Get to Work on top of the new fix, since it's an older version. You need to follow the proper order to avoid problems, sorry.

I would advise you to use the stuff in my video below, and follow its instructions. The latest "official fix" doesn't include Get to Work neither some past DLC, so I recommend using the content from my video's description.

Please, keep us posted and let's know if you got your game working with everything or if you need further assistance!

Worked on windows 7 but not on XP Empty Re: Worked on windows 7 but not on XP

Post by Guest Wed 28 Oct 2015, 18:19

Hi there,
Let me try to explain again. I have managed to install the base game on my XP Desktop PC. Than I did everything as you explained it on your Video, using your fix. I promptly got the origin error. ( Origin Not running )Than I used the getting to work expansion pack and installed it on top of your fix and fired up the game. Eureka, the game worked, but without all the other packs. Base game and getting to work only. Now I de- installed everything completely, removed everything remotely connected to the sims 4 and started from scratch. Following all the instructions and moving the game files from c drive to my external hard drive F. Same thing happened again.
Than I connected the external hard drive to the lap top which has Windows 7 . ( I have the game and your fix installed on my laptop, it does run beautifully, even with everything still in the original folder on c.{ C/program files/Electronic Arts /The sims 4 }The desktop link refers back to thatvfolder and the game loads from there without a hitch .
After I connected the external hard drive to the laptop, I created a new quick start icon which linked to the The sims 4 game files on F( External hard drive ). So starting up the game would run from there. It started perfectly and the game ran, but it accessed the existing  My Documents/ Electronic Arts/ The sims 4  file. I realized this because the saved games where there. Everything was there, all the goodies from all the stuff packs. ( sauna kitchen half walls, hot tub etc )
Now I renamed all the sims 4 file in My documents ,as well as all the sims 4 Files on the C drive and crossed my fingers. I started up the game again with the link I previously created on my Desk top. The game started and all the new stuff was created from the loading screen.  I had Newcrest neighborhood, half walls,  fancy kitchen stuff, hot tubs, massage tables, the new Spa, simply everything in a brand new squeaky clean game on my Lap top. So I assumed this proved that everything worked properly. There was no asking for Origin to run, nothing. The game worked
I reconnected the external Hard drive to the Desk top PC and started the game again. Remember, I had not run it again on the Desktop after the re installation. AND AGAIN I got the Origin  needs to be running error. There is no Virus program on the Desktop. It has a firewall, but that is switched off. Than I installed the getting to work again and I could play the game, but without all the extra tings. ( Half walls, hot tub, kitchen goodies etc, also no Spa and no Newcrest)
Repeated everything with Carlos sims 4 fix with the same result. That is why I asked how it was possible to run smoothly on Windows 7 but not on XP. Using the identical installed game files on both computers .Why is there no more error message on my XP the minute I install the getting to work files separately, overwriting the folders already there. Strange. Sorry for the LOOOOOOONG explanation.

Sorry to hear that! Maybe you need Windows 7 (or newer) for the game to run?

But it works with all content on Windows 7, right? You know that if you apply the Get to Work after Spa Day, you will lose the new stuff, right?

That's why I told you may need Windows 7 or newer for the game to run properly Smile

"My" fix is a copy of @Carlos fix. I only repacked and re-uploaded it, meaning they are both the same thing Wink

Sorry for being a bit dense. If the game needs window 7, why is the base game and getting to work running smoothly on my XP? Without any problems??? Its just the fixes that cause those error messages. It does not matter in which order I install them. The minute I install the seperate getting to work package, it runs smoothly again. I must only rename the My Documents/Electronic Arts/ The sims 4  to something else and the game creates a new the sims 4 File. But never mind, I will carry on with what I have got. Thank you for trying to solve this puzzle. Much appreciated. Smile Smile

There's only so much we can do to help, sorry. We can't have all operating system and preview all user environments.

We are providing free support on stuff you get for free using our own personal time.

EA wants you to buy the game, so they will make it the hardest possible for you to run a free copy. They may give you a taste/sample with the base game, and even Get to Work, but each new pack should be harder to crack, so they make more money.

Glad you recognize our effort. Enjoy what you can and stay tuned for a newer version that may help you better, or you will need to buy a copy of the game.

I do know that and I appreciate your efforts. XP is a Dinosaur when it comes to operating systems. SmileSmile If I want to play the game with everything included, I can play on the lap top. Thanks again for trying. Guess I must save some money to get an upgrade on the PC. But I sooo love my XP. Smile Thanks again

Just to make sure, actually you are not supposed to install Get to Work on top of Sim Architect's torrent fix. If you do install Sim Architect's fix, it has ALL DLC of TS4. And you must move the install folder "The Sims 4" out of Electronic Arts, and elsewhere, for example, directly under Program files(x86).

And you must delete all desktop shortcuts pointing to the old Electronic Arts-location. Just make a new TS4.exe shortcut, from the new location then.

I'm repeating this because I was unsure whether you did that (you wrote a lengthy post above, but that didn't directly mention these points, at least IMO).

Anyhow, if you can get the base game + Get to Work running, you should be able to run the other more recent DLC too. Maybe it's indeed a specialty of Windows XP; I can't tell. Maybe you want to install Windows 7 on your desktop too, at some point...?

Hi Carlos, I have done everything possible. I installed the fix from Sim Architect and got the Origin needs to be running error. Un installed everything, used your fix . Followed installation instructions to a T. Origin Error. Then I added the Get to work file from here and the game is running. Outdoor retreat stuff is there, but everything else is missing. ( from patio stuff, celebrations, kitchen goodies etc. ) Since I can run the full game on my Laptop, its fine. That graphics card is a bit crappy.
I have moved the game from the Electronic Arts Location. I have moved it to my External hard drive and it is running from there. ( I also did the moving to c:\programs, )Since the game runs perfectly if I hook the external hard drive to my Lap top and play from there, I think it must be a problem with XP. Should I have money to spare in the distant future, I will definitely upgrade my PC. I can play the game, just not the complete stuff. Thanks for your help guys, it is truly much appreciated. You can't imagine how much!
