error when launching sims 3 launcher. [SOLVED]

i have installed the sims 3 ep's WA, LN and generations today and i know for sure they work fine (i 'almost' started the game but stopped when this error popped and i read somewhere that it is normal for generations so no problem there). i was at the last few steps of applying the 'ultimate fix' (finished doing step 10 that says "For The Sims 3 - Generations: open the "Generations" folder in this .rar file and drag & drop both files in there to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin and choose "Replace" on the pop-up that appears, telling you the files already exist.") (step 11 is for town life stuff [which i don't have] in case anyone is wondering) anyway, i was at step 12 telling me to open my launcher and update to the latest version. problem is it has popup that says "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application". i googled around and found out that it has to do with the .net thingy. i already have version 4 of .NET so does this mean sims 3 is not compatible with version 4?? (it mentioned that it needs at minimum the version 2)

edit: i'm guessing this is not a common problem so if no one has an answer, can anyone tell me what version i need to update to so i can do this manually and how to install sims3packs without the launcher?? thanks!!

i will!! for now, i'm still downloading the patch.. it's really slow..

i was able to update using the patch but i still get the same error..
i'll probably have to uninstall .NET version 4 then replace it with version 2..
