Sims 3 has stopped working. Empty Sims 3 has stopped working.

Post by Guest Fri 22 Jan 2016, 22:25

I apologize in advance... this was addressed in another post and realized too late that i need to make a new one... Anyhow from that post (Sims 3 Crashing 01/02/2015) Downloading the 4G patch was suggested then someone commented and said this below regarding that/those particular step(s)
Be advised that points 3 and 7 no longer apply. That was fixed with Generations.
My question, is this still relevant or should I still download the 4G Patch?... I have been having issues with Sims 3 Crashing I just did DEP for all... Sims3, EP  and SP. Just wondering before I go ahead and launch my game to see if all the suggestions worked... I Look forward to some feedback  Smile

//EDIT

Update!!!: the 4G patch download is not compatible with windows 8

//EDIT
Also did can I run it and everything is over specs, however my operating system was not created when the game came out so they are unsure if it will properly operate on my system win8...

Hello again,

Why is the 4GB patch not compatible or working for you ? Are you getting any error messages, and if yes, what do they say ? The patch should work with no issues. But it only makes sense to apply this if you have a 64-bit Windows system and at least 4GB of RAM in your computer. I have installed The Sims 3 + all expansions/stuffpacks on my current Windows 10 system, including the 4GB patch, and everything is fine. I also did this previously on my Windows 8.1 system, again with no issues.

This 4GB patch can help reduce crashings, but is only one step. You should also focus on adding the .exe files of The Sims 3 to your "DEP exclusions" too.

Beyond that, I strongly suggest you have a look at this thread here:
https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t21716-excessive-fps-rendering-in-the-sims-3-updated-on-16-12-2015

Make sure to turn on "VSync" on your graphics card or computer system, if you haven't done so yet !

Post by Guest Sat 23 Jan 2016, 07:51

Hello again Smile Thank you for your reply. I have done all steps I have added Sims 3 with all EP SP and even the .exe in the sims 3 Packs folder... I have patched all of the Sims 3 along with EP and SP with the 4G Patch... The issue I am having with the 4G Patch dwnld is that after I successfully patch a .exe and select another file to patch the next .exe the patch app crashes... i went to troubleshoot and it said it is compatible for windows 7... I have VSync for Global set as ON and each sims 3 .exe... I went to TS3W. exe and ran game as administrator... Also just fyi, i restarted my computer after each adjustment. What has been different after I did the 4G Patch is that i get a pop up screen say I have modifications that aren't apart of the original sims 3 game, and warning if i continue to play with modification the game may crash or have bugs. of course I clicked continue, however with each launch I am now getting this message which has never happened before. I deleted a saved game that I played before all of the DEP, and additional steps and patches and everything seemed to be fine then after an hour or less it stopped working again/crashed. The only thing I have not done was remove all of my mods. I have all Nraas mods as well especially error trap... Please see last crash report below.... FYI i noticed in the crash report it is reading my OS as windows vista... I have windows 8.1 I noticed that this is what has been in all of my reports starting from 1/7/2016 I think this is the first day my game started crashing... I haven't done anything different and had been playing with no issues; these issues literally just started. I have my origin set not to update and previously and currently always launched my game with CC magic, again no issues at the time. Not sure what is happening... Please see report sorry so long. Not sure what else to do.

Hello again,

I edited your post and put your crash log into a spoiler, to make the text more readable. Smile

If you are getting a notification about incompatible game modifications, have you tried removing all mods ? And, you are sure you are using the 1.67 patch as well as the latest available Ultimate fix ? In case of doubt, see the steps #2 and #5 here again:

Yes, thanks I am using the 1.67 patch and  latest Ultimate fixes... Also just removed all mods and everything works fine... I think I will delete all and start from scratch and utilize the DEP Suggestions along with the 4G Patch.

Question, with clean reinstall should I keep graphics default in the game or can I use optimized settings NVIDIA High everything: FPS 60 and Screen Res 1366X768?

Also, is CCMAGiC ok for me to use and launch the game through the CC Magic app?

Maybe I misunderstood something, but if you say you removed the mods and everything is working fine, why do you want to "start from scratch" again ? So you are STILL encountering issues, then ? Smile

The actual graphics settings depend on your computer's strength/performance. What I definitely suggest is that you turn Vertical Sync ON. That is really essential. Everything else, as I said, depends on your system specs.

And starting the game with CCMagic should be OK, though I myself don't use CC Magic.

Post by Guest Tue 26 Jan 2016, 02:27

Hello again... Sorry I am just now replying... After loads of troubleshooting... removing cc... removing the entire sims3 and all EP SP, etc. then reinstalling placing DEP on all ep sp, game and packs, as well as, 4G patch all of the previous mentioned game components, as well as having my 3D settings on global Vsync, and all my CC checked and cleaned with Delphy, and my game still stopped working after 59mins of building... at first I was building a home in play mode, so I said okay let me just build in edit world mode... still crashing... Soooo even more frustrated... I finaly stumbled upon MTSFord Sims3 Crash log analyzer and it is said the likely cause is Graphic Device(s) not found in database 0x1347NVIDIA GeForce 940M... Sooo I went to my DeviceConfig (text Doc) in my Sims3 Folder and there it was:

===Graphics device info ===
Number:          0
Name (driver):   NVIDIA GeForce 940M
Name (database): NVIDIA GeForce 940M             ]Found: 0, Matched: 0]
Vendor:          NVIDIA
Chipset:         Vendor: 10de, Device: 1347, Board: 098c1025, Chipset: 00a2
Driver:          nvd3dum.dll, Version: 10.18.13.6143, GUID: D7B71E3E-5007-11CF-6A64-81291FC2C735
Driver version:  6143
Monitor:         \\.\DISPLAY1
Texture memory:  32MB <>
Vertex program:  3.0
Pixel program:   3.0
Hardware TnL:    1

This makes since because I have in the past 3 weeks or so had an update for NVIDIA and then back in 2015 there was another update as well... Seems exactly when I started having issues about 2-3 weeks ago... Anyhow

So of course there is a tutorial on Mod the Sims on Getting new graphics cards recognized by the game but it is not organized and the steps are not clear and concise like how you all give your instructions, and for that reason I am not able to follow to correct my issue... IF you have an easier solution it would be greatly appreciated. However you have done much for me already Carlos is tha man!!! ... I just wanted to give you an update. Thanks for your time

Hello again,

No worries, we will try and help you as long as possible. Smile  Originally I wanted to write a guide on this issue too, about the thing with the "graphics card being recognized". But then I decided not to, because on MTS there was already a guide. I actually did the procedure on my own, and while it is indeed not that easy to do, I managed to get it done.

That said, maybe I'll think about something new. In the meantime, have you tried lowering your in-game graphics settings ? Note that laptops are in general not made for gaming purposes, so there are always problems with laptops, unfortunately.

Thanks so much... I have not tried lowering my in game graphics settings as I am not sure how to do it effectively. Would just using the default setting in the game work? Also, I did come across a help forum in EA Help and there was a lady who mentioned her game worked without the Virus protection on, because with it on she would experience the crash and the error "game not recognizing graphics card". Three of the Anti-Malware she mentioned she used and caused conflicts were AVG, AVAST, and I think it was Norton as well (i will go back in and verify the third one just in case others need to know)... Anyhow I have AVAST and a recently new update for that application, so I disabled protection for an hour on my first try to see if that would help and I didn't experience a crash... Strange thing is even with no crash I went back to my DeviceConfig and it still said Graphics card 0...  I don't want to say that this issue is solved just yet because I would like reinstall my worlds and store content and play with my Anti-Vi/Malware off.. If I can get more than 3 hours of straight play no crashes I will write back with the good news... My fingers are crossed. Thanks again and I will keep you posted
Carlos is tha man!!!
P.S. I am launching my game going through C:/program files(x86)/Electronic Arts/ The Sims 3/Game/Bin/TS3W.exe (makes my game startup really fast, and seems to make a difference)

Not sure about the thing with avast, but there should be a thing named Silenced/gaming mode in there. Look for that option and activate. I think you can right-click on the avast icon in the taskbar and choose the option too.

As for the settings here:

Sims 3 has stopped working. MTS_Sugarbear-1171965-sims3_in-game_settings

Try lowering the in-game resolution. Other options such as edge smoothing, visual effects, lighting and shadows, tree detail, draw distance & high detail lots can be lowered to medium too. I would also recommend to TICK the box next to "enable object hiding" (it's not in the screenshot here).

See if any of that makes a difference. Smile
