Unable to change language after the latest update Empty Unable to change language after the latest update

Post by Guest Tue 19 Jul 2016, 22:42

Please help me I just spent two hours trying out every possible combination to get it to work.

My wife can only play the game in german.

The game worked fine with every update since 2014. Base game was always RELOADED and updates were ultimate fixes released here.

System is a 64-bit Windows 7

The strange thing is, an ulitmate fix should even change the language, since it only updates files, not registry settings. What happened here?

I tried every reg fix suggested on this site with no success.
I changed the values manually and with the reg files you linked, but nothing works.

Upon starting the game and exiting, the reg values are always reverted to en_US
the only values that remain de_DE are the ones in Software/Maxis (the 32 bit path)

the 64 bit path (Wow64Node )always gets reverted.

I tried launching the game with both the 32bit and 64bit file TS4.exe but same outcome.

thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum @VitaeS4,

Thanks for the heads up ! It seems to be the case something was changed about the system that handles the languages. Could you please navigate to the location where you installed The Sims 4 to, and then go under Game\Bin\RldOrigin.ini.

Under "Language", set your de_DE, but also make sure to remove the SEMICOLON (;) in front of "Language". Save the change to the text file and close it. Now right-click on your .exe file and choose "run as Administrator". See if that works for you.

Thank you for your quick answer!

Unfortunately it's getting really late and I have to postpone this but it will be the first thing tomorrow morning and I report back ASAP

A quick question:

I moved the sims folder to Program Files/The Sims 4 (from Program Files (86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/)

Should it stay there?
I also changed all reg values to that..

Yes, move the folder "The Sims 4" directly under C:\Program files. And according to my information, it should not be necessary at all to change the registry values anymore; if you edit the text file that I mentioned, according to how I described it before, the new language should be activated in-game.

But I myself have to do more tests later on, and it's getting late over here too. Good luck anyhow, and do keep us posted here ! Very Happy

Unable to change language after the latest update Empty Re: Unable to change language after the latest update

Dear The_gh0stm4n,

It worked like a charm! You wouldn't believe how sad she was, you just made her (and my) day! Thank you so much, God bless you my friend and this beautiful site!

a few details:

After doing the .ini file trick, I noticed some of the text went completely missing in-game (i.e the text from the popups that show the new content) the text was just empty. some other text was also missing from the gallery.

So I figured it must have been the old "language changer" files that I copied over, so I deleted those and restored my backup.

Also, I moved the game back to the Program Files (86)/Electronic Arts/ folder and changed all registry back to it.

These steps seem to have fixed the missing text issue.

The old "language changer.zip" shouldn't be used anymore (i think), because it has some additional files (language.dat) that aren't in the game anymore.

the game still needs some testing but at first glance it looks to be working.

Very interesting stuff...thanks for the feedback ! I would still recommend leaving the game under C:\Program files though, or at the very least under C:\Program files (x86), if you are planning on using the 32-bit executable TS4.exe.

I'm not sure what to think of this. I actually experimented a bit with deleting the old registry keys in both 32-bit and 64-bit registry locations. And after restarting the game, with the ".ini file trick" activated, the game recreated new registry entries, but they look different than the old ones, in that they only contain one (1) subentry named "Locale". Maybe the old registry entries interfere with that, and have to be deleted ?

I don't know yet, but it's good to hear this did the trick for you. Smile
