Need help downloading cc / mods on sims 2 please! [SOLVED] Empty Need help downloading cc / mods on sims 2 please! [SOLVED]

Hello.

I've downloaded "The Sims 2: The Complete Collection" from a torrent originating from this website. Thank you for that by the way!

However, I am unable to access my downloaded custom content or mods in the game.

Here's my full explanation of the situation:

I followed the instructions on the download perfectly and executed each required step. I'm referring to the file named "# Installation Guide". However, after fully downloading the game, I've noticed that there is no actual "The Sims 2" folder made under C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES

Instead, under EA GAMES there are 15 folders, each of them either an expansion pack or an "SP", whatever that is. See attached file named "EA GAMES folder". In order to actually launch the game, I have to select a file called "Sims2EP9.exe" as per the instructions under:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSBin

I've taken the following steps to fix the issue:

1. Enabled cc content in the game

2. Restarted the game

3. Placed the "Downloads" folder containing the mods/custom content in the following locations w/o any luck:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res

My "Downloads" folder contains package files. I assume that's what cc content looks like.

4. Created a "The Sims 2" folder under the "EA GAMES" folder under which I put the 15 folders I mentioned earlier with the respective Downloads folders in them. This induces an error when I click on the "Sims2EP9.exe" file to launch the game.

I'm at my wits end with this. Could you guys please help me? What am I doing wrong?

//EDIT

Oh for goodness sake. I think I've just realized my mistake. This Downloads folder needs to go under My Documents not Program Files. I would delete this thread but maybe someone else will be as stupid as me. I'll leave this to the moderators on whether to delete the thread or not.

Thanks again for the torrent

Hello,

Welcome to the forum.
Indeed, the downloadsfolder should probably be under "Documents".

Just so you know: the abbreviation "sp" stands for "stuffpack". And no, you cannot just move your game files to another location and start the game from there. This is because of the entries in the registry. Those registry entries point to the location you installed the game to. Once you move the installationfolders, those registry entries are no longer valid, and your game doesn't start. This same principle applies to other programs as well.

I will close this topic, if you have questions again, feel free to open a new topic.
Happy simming The Sims Plumbob 1

Hello!

Just an additional note, some custom content pieces (can?) go under the following location though: C:\Program files (x86)\EA GAMES\(name of EP that was released by EA most recently)\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins. I believe putting custom content in there will get rid of the asterisk in the in-game thumbnail, that denotes the item as custom content.

I wanted to work on a custom content guide for The Sims 2, but haven't quite gotten to do it yet. But it would appear most custom content can go under Documents\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\Downloads.

This here might also interest you, in case you haven't seen it yet. Smile
