How can Pets become mates in Sims 3 Pets?

Hey!

Today I got the Sims 3 Pets and started playing. I adopted two horses, a male and a female, and they are adult now. The worst thing is I don't know what to do so they become mates. Only if they are mates they can try for foles....if somebody knows how it works, please tell me. Thanks!!!

(be a horse) shift + click mail box select everybody friends with me

the go to the horses friends (list thing)
see the bar under your other horse which states how good friends they are, you can toggle that bar,

or do it the hard way and make them play and spend lots of time together
