Cannot start a new game?

I have downloaded the game and manual patched and did everything in the installation guide.
The game opens nicely, however, I am unable to "Start a new game".
After I press the button, it turns grey. I also tried pressing the options menu and the "Choose a city" but nothing comes out.
Please help, I have wasted my last remaining disk space on my Mac OS X El Capitan on this game.
