Absent DLC? [SOLVED] Empty Absent DLC? [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Tue 06 Jun 2017, 16:12

Hey, first off sorry if this has been answered elsewhere or if this should be a gameplay rather than install query - I did try searching but on a cursory look through the results none seemed like they answered these specific questions. Obviously if this has been answered elsewhere please feel free to link me and close this.

MAIN PROBLEMS

I installed the sims 4 plus all additional content packs (get to work, get together, city living, toddlers and vampires, parenthood, and update fix 1.30.105.1010) as per the "how to install the sims 4 correctly"

On attempting to open the ts4.exe file, it attempts to take me to origin, and then if I say to go offline the game fails to initialise because "origin needs to be running".

On attempting to open the TSF_x64.exe file, the game *does* seem to load correctly, however all the additional content is greyed out and states that it's "not owned" when I hover over it.

POTENTIAL CAUSES

I can think of a few things which happened during my install which might have caused this.

Firstly, I had to copy the install over to D due to lack of space on C. I did follow instructions as best I could though "move" wasn't an option. However, I did change the registry files to reflect the new location of the game.

Secondly, while extracting some of the files there were a few which errored and could not be extracted - I believe there were only two files but the names seemed to suggest that they were icons so I didn't think much of it at the time (sorry, I don't remember the file names off the top of my head - I can re-do the extractions to say what was missing from where if people think that would help)

Antivirus did initially pick up files which it marked as trojans during extraction of some of the additional content - I ignored this first time but then went back and re-extracted these with antivirus disabled. Other than for this content it didn't flag anything up from the main install or when it was reactivated after instructions were carried out (I use Avira and from what I've seen before it always tells me if it is blocking/quarantining, though I could be mistaken)

Lastly, it's entirely possible that the 64bit version is working just fine and the additional content is supposed to be greyed out and I'm just a total sims 4 n00b and can't figure out how to get stuff to work, but from having a quick play it does look a lot like there's not the content that I was expecting to be there (3 areas, no hospital, toddlers *are* an option in character creation, but there doesn't seem to be anything else obvious which I would expect from bundle names).

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

Will this be fixed if I go back and move (rather than copy) the initial install from C to D drive and then complete the rest of the instructions (in which case, please let me know how to "move" - I'm using windows 7 and couldn't see any obvious way to move the folder rather than copy, but it's entirely possible that that's just me being dense)

Is it normal for the extraction to yield some failed files, and if not should I then re-attempt the torrents of affected folders?

Am I supposed to have an origin login for this?

Is it possible that Avira has sneakily quarantined files without my consent (if so, any avira-specific hints would be appreciated)

And finally, is this all just me being incompetent and not understanding how to access new content?

Sorry for this long and rambling post - I'm looking forward to any advice anybody has. Of course, if people require any further information I'll do what I can to get back to them, though I'm away from my computer from today until the 8th.

Hi there!

Thank you for providing as many details as possible as well as the questions above. Forgive me if my response is wrong or you've already done a few things I've stated.

  1. Placing the sims 4 folder in D drive shouldn't be a problem. I had mine installed(move) on my external drive and my game runs fine. You can cut+paste instead of copy or just drag the folder in Program Files(x86) to D Drive instead. If you have no space on your C Drive, perhaps instead of moving the sims 4 folder, you could move the others who takes up as much space as well.
  2. Failed extractions or error of any kind (except empty archive when you're extracting) means a possible corruption or incomplete download of data. I highly recommend you to re-download back those files and either add the Downloads folder to the exclusion list or turn off your anti-virus.
  3. You do not need origin to play our version. If the origin error pop ups, you can download the .dll files here.
  4. Anti-virus LOVE to clean our pc. I'm not kidding. If you're comfortable and are wary of downloads at all times, I'd recommend turning it off as well as your microsoft security essentials/windows defender. Also, it's best to check if you have more than one anti-virus software pre-installed in your pc.
  5. Don't worry, you're not incompetent and you are free to ask any questions you have regarding the setup/install process.

Try to re-install your game pack by pack, to see if the origin error pops up, or you have any other kind of error. Do keep us updated. Smile

Okay, just quickly, imtead of MOVE you can cut and paste. worked for me.
Which Fix did you download?(update fix 1.30.105.1010)

https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t30367-the-sims-4-patch-level-1-30-105-1010-out-now#

This is the correct one, no FIX in description.

If you downloaded   https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t30428-ts4-update-only-fix-1-30-105-1010-out-now# it would have voided all the other DLC's. This one is for people who want the latest patch, but no DLC's, thus base game only, but patched up to last one.
If you have done that, I would download the patch ( first link ) and install as all the others. Please have Virus scanner and Firewall shut down during installation process. The downloads from G4TW are safe.

Sorry, this is a bit repetitive but I posted probably at same time. Please just make sure which files you downloaded. Smile

Hey both, thanks for the quick and helpful replies Smile

Reading your replies, it sounds like the way that I moved the initial install isn't an issue, so that's reassuring ^.^

Good to know that I should re-download the failed ones. I was hoping a little that the icons were just sort of **** to save me having to torrent them all over again, but eh, it's not a big deal.

Thanks for the tip about Origin - I was planning to play the 64bit version anyway, but if reinstalling things doesn't work then I'll take a look at the DLL link you gave Smile

I'm pretty stringent with the controls I have on my antivirus so I'm certain that avira is the only one which actually *does* anything, and I'm fairly certain that I've got a workaround covered for that, but I'll double check just to be sure.

I can't remember what I downloaded but reading your description of what would happen if I used the wrong one it does sound a lot like that could be a major part of the problem. My guess is that I had both open at some point and didn't check which one I was downloading ^.^;

Anywhoo, thanks again - you've both been very helpful Smile like I said, I'm away from my computer for a bit so I'll do all this stuff and let you know how it get on on Thursday. Wish me luck!

RIGHT

Having done all that it looks like I managed to fix it - I think the major issue was that I'd stupidly downloaded the fix rather than the patch. Totally my fault. Still, thanks people for the help Very Happy Now to get down to some serious sims-ing to distract myself from the inevitable disappointment at the results of today's election ^_^; xxx
