20 Minutes into playing Game Crashes?

I followed all the directions on how to install the sims correctly, I even repeated steps 7 on up.. I also lowered my graphics as well. I'm not sure as to why I'm not able to play any more than 20 minutes. The first time it crashed I was in the middle of build mode. It turned my screen black and completely froze up my computer.. The second time it did I was trying to go to the map of the city and got a crash message. I still have the logs if needed. Has anyone gone through the same issue and is anyone able to help? Thank you in advance!

Besides the use of custom-content, overheating is a common cause for crashes.
Check the ventilation-slots of your computer.
