Installed Cats and Dogs EP, getting error message (The program ts4.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close)

Hi! Just installed the new Cats and Dogs Expansion pack, followed all instructions on how to install, but whenever i try to start the game i get this error message for some reason. 
All help is greatly appreciated!

(Mods have already been moved so i could test out the game)

Im having the exact same issue! I followed the instructions as usual, but I keep getting the same error message as you!

I am also having that same issue.

I've uninstalled my whole sims and then installed it again following the guide on here yet I am still getting that error message

Same! not only that, but my game is in Espanol (I do understand the language, but id rather play it in English   )

I've somehow managed to get it to load once, but then it came up with an error message 3 and half the expansion packs were not installed for some reason.. But now I'm constantly just getting 'the program ts4.exe encountered a serious problem'. 

I'm hoping someone will be able to come up with a solution for us!

Nobody managed to launch the game after this error ? I'm having the same issue. It's not my first time adding a DLC, I followed the instruction, but I guess something went wrong

I tried a lot of stuff nothing works for now.

I removed my Mods folder. The Sims 4 folder also from "my documents" to have a new one, but still not creating one as it doesn't launch.

In Wineskin I updated to the 2.16 version. I tried also with the 2.3 version. I've run vcrun2012 and vcrun2013.

I've replaced my "Game" folder by the new one also, didn't work either.

I don't know what else I can try. If someone have an idea. Thank you !

I don't know what kind of error you guys are having, but I'll post some solutions:

If you're on High Sierra:

1) Go to your Sims 4 app. Right click on the application, choose Show Package Contents. Double click on Wineskin;

2) Click Configuration, click on Screen Option, untick Auto Detect GPU. Click Done;

3) Click Tools, select Winetricks, search for "videomemorysize", select option that matches the closest the setting of your computer, click Run;



If you're having the TS4.exe error:

1) Open Wineskin Winery. Update the wrapper version if it needs updating. Install WS9Wine2.16 engine by clicking on the plus (+), choose WS9Wine2.16; Download and Install;

1) Go to your Sims 4 app. Right click on the application, choose Show Package Contents. Double click on Wineskin;

3) Click Advanced. Click on Tools, click on Change Engine Used, select WS9Wine2.16 from the dropdown, and click OK;

4) Select Advanced, click on Tools, click on Winetricks, click Update Winetricks, let it run, once that's done search for 'vcrun2012', tick it, click on run; search for 'vcrun2013', tick it, click on run.



If your game is not loading all expansions:

1) Find your The Sims 4 folder inside the .../yourusername/Documents/Eletronic Arts folder;

2) Drag it out of this folder or rename it something else;

3) Run the game and let it cretae a new The Sims 4 folder with all the necessary files. You may need to run twice in my experience for it to "see" all the expansions installed;

4) Move your Save folder (the one you renamed or moved somewhere else) to this newly created folder. Move also your Tray folder;

5) Run the game, see if everything works, load a lot or family, etc;

6) Move Mods folder last, run the game, see if everything works once again.



If nothing else is working for you:

1) Create a new wine wrapper using all the specs above. There's a tutorial here: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t31552-how-to-download-and-install-the-sims-4-on-mac#

2) Let the game create the new The Sims 4 folder and run the game clean: no saves, no mods, no tray. Test it out.

3) Once you sees that it works, move your saved game and trays. For mods, I would recommend you check the lists to see if the mods and CC are fixed for C&D, since many, many problems are due to broken CC and mods.

If your game is not even lauching it means files are missing. When we update our games on wine / mac is necessary that you open EVERY FOLDER and copy the contents from the downloaded update inside the correspondent folder. Only the contents, not the whole folder. If you simple drag and drop the whole folder, it will replace it without preserving the one that didn't need an update. A bit tedious work, but that's the only what you can be sure that only the needed files with the replaced and you won't lose those that didn't need an update.

You say you replaced the "Game" folder, check and see how many files you have sinde Game/Bin/? You should have 21 files, only 7 were updated for C&D.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I installed Cats & Dogs replacing each file in each folder as I've done for the previous DLC. And the "Game" folder I replaced was the one given by G4TW, because they said to rename the "Game" folder by "Game_" and to move it or delete it, and add the new one. (I don't really know why, but with toddlers it fixed my problem) But now it doesn't work. I downloaded again all the games and I am creating a new Winesking wrapper (still keeping the old one too. I don't know if it is an issue to have 2 wrappers with the same game).

I will tell you if it works once I've added all the game (That's a lot of work haha)


Edit 16/11/17 : Well I took me 2 days to install carefully everything and to be sure I did not do a mistake. Now when I launch the game I have to wait 4 minutes before getting the same error (4mn on my desktop, not 4mn in the game...)

Hi, not sure if you're game still isn't working, but I was getting the same error and finally fixed my game. I think the error is because vcrun 2012 and vcrun2013 aren't installing correctly. I did a complete re-install of the game (deleting the wine wrapper and making a new 2.16 one and then carefully placing every single folder one by one for every dlc), but I had to manually go to microsoft's website and download Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2012 and 2013 and put them in the respective folders. 
You can do this by clicking go to folder in the go tab on finder and typing in ~/.cache/winetricks, their folder should be there (vcrun2012 and vcrun2013) and you just wanna drag in the file you downloaded from microsoft. The open your new wineskin wrapper, go to winetricks and update winetricks, after it's done updating look up vcrun2012 and vcrun2013 and run them. An install window needs to pop up after you click run, otherwise it won't work. After installing those just install the rest of the game like it says so in the tutorial.
This is what did it for me, my game is working perfectly now, cats and dogs and everything. Sorry if my explanation was confusing. If you need any clarification feel free to say so. Hope this helps.

Really weird you didn't get wine to install those... Maybe you blocked the wrapper from accessing the internet? I did block mine in the past when origin needed it to be installed + crack, but have since made a new wrapper that I allow online access.

Hi all, I had the same problem. I re-ran vcrun 2012 and 2013 and the game successfully launched. 

For some reason, my wrapper doesn't hold onto settings or configurations well. Going through all the settings again got it working .

Ever since updating my mac, I'm getting the same error again. I was on the 2.16 engine. Now I've tried the 2.22 + downloading the vcrun again, I also unticked the GPU thing. but nothing is helping! aaaah! please help. I want to play my game again
