Start error after installing new pets stuff

Hello there!

I have just installed My First Pet DLC, and since this pack came with some differences comapred to others, I have thoroughly read the instructions and notes and strictly followed everything. I've copied the codex.cfg file and chose my language (Brazilian Portuguese). Still, every time I try to open the game, two windows appear, the first one has "OrangeEmu.dll" as title and has nothing but "Hello " along a X in a red circle and a "OK" button. Once you click OK, it says that the The Sims 4 couldn't start, error (0xc0000142), click OK to close (loosely translated from Br-Pt). I have already tried deleting and re-copying the "Game" folder, and even reinstalling My First Pet, but nothing seems to work. Can you help me with that? the "Hello " message creeps me out!

I'm getting the exact same error with OrangeEmu64.dll in the creepy "Hello " message, using the default English language version. I've tried reinstalling all the way through, added exceptions for the files/folders (which I've never had to do before, not a fan), and recopied just the game folder a couple times to make sure it wasn't that. I don't have mods installed when doing updates, so I'm at a total loss on this error.

Your anti-virus program has removed OrangeEmu.dll and OrangeEmu64.dll as it is considered to be a virus, which of course is not true.

Add your installation folder the Sims 4 to the exceptions of your AV.
Switch your AV off for a moment while you extract the download for My First Pet again.
Copy the folder Game again to your install folder.
Now you can switch your AV back on.

Done. Still getting the same messages.

I was having this problem with Windows Defender specifically on Windows 10 v1709 (build 16299.309). I disabled it entirely, restarted the computer, did a full re-install of Sims 4 through every patch from G4TW, and still had this error. Jungle Adventure runs perfectly, even after just throwing an archived folder back in, so clearly something with this particular crack isn't doing what it should be doing. I'm perfectly fine to wait for a RELOADED/G4TW version if they plan on doing a release to avoid all of these shenanigans in the future. They seem to do a more complete job (extras included and I can use mods), and I don't have to make my PC more vulnerable to run theirs.

Hello @Semajitor and sorry to hear about these problems,

I could say something along the lines now of "you can rest assured that (...) everything has been tested". But that still does not solve your problem, and will not change your mind anyhow. 

You should check your computer for any "hidden" antivirus programs - they oftentimes get installed along side freeware. Most people click through the installers quickly without reading, and then  miss the window where it says "I would like to install additional offers/searchbars/anti-virus software". That could be one possibility in your case.

Another would be that there has been some Windows update, though I did not notice any, and the game still works fine on my end.

But ultimately, I'm guessing none of these suggestions will probably help, so you could consider using ZLOrigin, if you want to play a cracked Sims 4. Not really a solution to your original problem, but please bear in mind that it is not within our powers to solve every conceivable issue that users report.

I really appreciate the thought and effort you all put into these releases, and helping people with weird problems like the two of us have. As far as I'm aware I don't have any hidden software, antivirus or otherwise, on my PC. At least nothing listed in the programs and features or registry that I don't recognize. There haven't been any recent windows updates since I grabbed this download aside from updates to Defender definitions, so it *shouldn't* be that, but well.....windows.

I did try ZLOrigin when it was first announced by you guys, but it was so slow that it might as well have been dial-up at the time. I might try that again in the future if I want to update the game beyond Jungle Adventures that badly. I don't remember seeing anything about RELOADED not doing releases, just that this one came along first I think? Maybe I misread something, but if there is going to be another release from the group that was doing it before, and you wonderful folks see fit to package that up, that would be super awesome. As it is, the version I have works with all my mods and things, and I don't play enough to really get through all the added content quickly, so no rush on updating.

Of course we are still on the lookout for Reloaded-versions.
The new Codex crack forced us to rewrite quite some standard procedures like f.e. change of language.
When Reloaded cracks become available we shall publish these.

Don't bet on it; from my experience with other pirated game series, if one group starts coming up with a crack then it's rare that another group cracks it next time. Some kind of "honor" within the so-called scene groups, it appears. Translated to this context, it likely means that CODEX will now be providing the items from now on.

Just felt that I should update you that this same error occurs on the latest patch released as well (1.41.42.1020). The same error pops up for the 32-bit and 64-bit shortcuts (I'm on 64-bit Windows 10 for reference). I had some free time to test it out this afternoon, and it's the exact same error message which means that for me this particular crack is just not going to work. If I have time this weekend I might try ZLOrigin again and see if it's gotten a bit better, since I can't currently complete group party goals, and this latest patch apparently fixes that ridiculous bug.

Well, I am on windows 10, the latest version  (1709 build 16299.309 ), I have done all the exclusions, there are plenty. Also excluded the download folder, Vuze downloads, Mega downloads, etc., etc. ) I have exclude the complete the sims 4 install folder as well as all the important files in there, I have excluded the desktop icons, the sims4. exe  and I do not have a problem with the files you mentioned. I have also cleared anything Sims related in the Firewall. Maybe, you should try all of that?

I've done all of the exceptions, run it as admin, etc. I've run system scans to make sure nothing is corrupted/outdated. I've gone as far as doing a clean boot, disabling everything on startup and services that isn't basic drivers. This error still shows up no matter what is or isn't running, so it's not conflicting with another program. According to a thorough google search, the only possibilities remaining at this point are a conflict with my Nvidia drivers which are fully up to date, or DirectX 11/12 which I can't actually do anything about on Windows 10 since it's controlled by windows update.

Nvidia literally updated drivers today, and I do a clean install every time which *should* eliminate that as the problem unless I need an older driver version (which games have required in the past and is a huge pain in the ass). Dxdiag says everything is fine as far as no file errors at least, so it shouldn't be DirectX either. I think I'm just SOL on this particular crack unfortunately, at least as far as what is reasonable to troubleshoot on my end. I'd love to have a proper error report of some kind to dig through for a specific file conflict, but the dll isn't even letting the game start so nothing is being generated as far as I can tell.

If I find time this weekend I will probably try ZLOrigin again, and in the meantime I'll be stuck in Jungle Adventure with broken party goals. I just won't be doing the Party Animal aspiration, which is fine since it's one of the easier things to complete when it is working. If @Rukasu has any luck getting this working, I'd love to know what it was that caused this error.

dammydeer said here that turning virtualization off in your BIOS/(U)EFI solves the problem.
