AT&T sent me an email for piracy? (i'm new at this). Empty AT&T sent me an email for piracy? (i'm new at this).

Hi all--

I downloaded and used your sims 3 complete collection. It worked fine, but I received an email from my internet service provider regarding piracy (AT&T). They asked me to delete all pirated files and not download pirated items again or they would shut down my internet. I did, of course, delete everything, but I really want to download the limited edition and bonus items you have. I really don't want to get sued or have any serious consequences. I'm kind of a noob. Help? (I wasn't sure where to put this, so sorry if it's in the wrong place)

The email you received is automated by the file name. You didn't have to delete the files as they cannot access your system without your permission and therefore would not know if you did or did not delete the "pirated" file(s).

That being said, if you want to download "pirated" content without your ISP knowing it would be wise to use a VPN (virtual private network) like Windscribe or NordVPN. Windscribe offers 15GB a month for free. Take a look at This Post about VPNs

Moved to the right section. Smile  Like Dracos hinted, they cannot see what you have installed on your computer, so you could have simply kept that Sims 3 game installed on your computer.

I can't stress enough that these organizations/companies benefit greatly from the fact that the average person's "computer literacy" is usually restricted to turning on a PC, moving the mouse, plus typing on the keyboard.

You don't need to be a professor of computer science to be able to use and enjoy these offline-playable games, which is another very common misconception. But as things stand in most of the  Free "Western World", computer literacy for most of the populace is still very limited, despite the omni-presence of computers in these (highly-developed) societies.

You can use a VPN from the comfort of your home without worry, but if you like tea and crumpets while your downloading then a tea shop is also an option Very Happy

This is the reason, why I use Purevpn before downloading any torrents or files and also while watching online free streaming.

Slightly late response, but there is also the aspect of "killswitches". The basic problem is, that in the event your VPN provider has technical problems during a download, Windows by default will try and resume the download through your regular internet connection. So while you are at the tea shop, people hostile to your torrenting acitivities might be able to track your download and match it to your real IP address.

Good VPN services have a killswitch, meaning that in the event of connection problems on the VPN provider's side, the download is paused - and NOT resumed through your regular internet connection.

I believe that nowadays most "serious" VPN providers, especially those services that can mask your torrenting acitivities, provide a killswitch-functionality by default. But to be 100% sure try doing some research or ask the provider directly, before purchasing a VPN subscription.

Warning: TEA
