A problem has caused the sims 4 to stop working. [SOLVED]

Hi could anyone help me please. i refreshed my windows 8.1 because i got a virus and now the sims 4 wont work. it opens but then a window pops up saying "a problem caused the program to to stop working, Microsoft will notify you if we find a solution". Iv downloaded all my sims 4 content for you guys. i'v downloaded the new discord installer and have the most up to date patch. can anyone help me solve this please.

Just to clarify: if by "discord installer" you mean my repack then it's not G4TW release. It's just my repack. But it contains the same files, just packed differently.

Things you can try:
- add "The Sims 4\Game\Bin" folder to your anti-virus exception list - if you don't have any, you still have Windows Defender
- install VC redist - everything from "The Sims 4\__Installer\vc\vc2010sp1\redist" and "The Sims 4\__Installer\vc\vc2013\redist"

Thanks @anadius but im using Bit defender and it wont let me add the the bin folder itself to the exclusions list only files within the bin folder. Also where do i get the VC redist? I see them within my sims 4 folder, it would only let me repair the 2010 one, there was no files within the 2013 one. Tried it again after repairing the 2010 but im still having the same problem

@anadius thanks but its not working. i have the most update 2013 redist from microsoft installed. my antivirus will only let me exclude ts4.exe or ts4x64.exe but not both. Guess Ill just have to uinstall and reinstall everything. thanks for your help

Reinstalling won't make any difference. You can also try moving "Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4" to desktop. If that doesn't help, run the validator and post the result here.

And your anti-virus WILL let you exclude both. Just add one, and then add another. But from what I see Bitdefender lets you add whole folder: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/2121/

@anadius I eventually was able to add both ts4.exe and ts4x64.exe to exclusions in bitdefender. Running validator now will post when complete.

Just to clarify - i only installed the update sections of your repack with setup and helper notes, just to see if an update would fix my game, but my game and dlcs are from g4tw, should i have installed the base game and dlcs from your repack for your update to work?

My patch works with any game version, downloaded from anywhere. There's only one condition: you need to select proper install location. Which you didn't. You have the game installed from G4TW in one directory and my patch in another. Of course it won't work. Move my patch to the folder with your game.

@anadius ok thanks sorry for the confusion but could you point me in the right direction. So im taking just the patch file from your stuff and putting it where exactly? into program files sims 4 game bin folder?

No, not the patch file. Tell me:
Where did you install your game from G4TW?
What did you download from G4TW? (tell me filenames like "The Sims 4 - Cats & Dogs.rar", etc.)
Where did you install my patch?
What folder did you select in validator?

And what exactly did you download from my repack? Because folder you selected in validator has only patch and two DLCs: Dine Out and Get Famous.

@anadius i installed the game into d: downloads. my base game was from the pirate bay the sims4 reloaded, not sure if that was from g4tw but im sure all my dlcs were from g2tw and i had everything up until seasons. Its been so long since i first started downloading these.
Yesterday i installed your repack and i chose the patch file, no origin fix, setup, helper notes, verify bin files, dine out (couldnt remember if i already had that, i might have) and get famous. I also installed your stuff into d: downloads. I used program files - the sims 4 for the validator.

p.s I dont know where i can find the exact names of my dlc files but i had everything up until seasons working perfectly until i had to refresh my pc.

It doesn't matter where you downloaded my stuff. It matters where you installed it. And from what I deduced you:
- installed the game to "D:\downloads\The Sims 4" (just a guess, you didn't tell me exactly the folder name)
- downloaded files from my repack to "D:\downloads" and installed them to "C:\Program Files\The Sims 4" because that's the default path in my installer
- selected "C:\Program Files\The Sims 4" in validator

Am I correct?

So move files from "C:\Program Files\The Sims 4" to "D:\downloads\The Sims 4" (once again this is just a guess, you didn't tell me the exact path of your game).

@anadius D:\Downloads 2\ts4cats\ts4cats\Game\Bin thats the file path of my game i always used. so i move all files from c programs ts4 to this or just certain files? also your installer said i could use the new shortcut created with installation to play the game, so that would have a different file path, does that affect this in anyway?

No, you can't use shortcut created by my installer because it leads to exe in "C:\Program Files\The Sims 4\Game\Bin". Which will not exist after moving files. Create a new one for TS4.exe or TS4_x64.exe (if you're using 64-bit operating system) from "D:\Downloads 2\ts4cats\ts4cats\Game\Bin".
