Slow Launching. Empty Slow Launching.

Post by Guest Mon 14 Oct 2019, 20:59

Hello, It's been awhile since I've played The Sims 2 and I slightly upgraded some of my hardware since the last time I played. I attempted to play The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection (origin version) today and noticed after double clicking the icon on the desktop it took longer than usual to actually launch the game. This is no CC either. Seems to take a good minute or two before it actually pops up and starts loading. This is with origin already running in the background and it's not just the first load it's every single time. Anyone know why or how to fix it?

Which hardware did you upgrade exactly? Note that new hard-drives are especially prone to..."malfunction". I guess they are technically more fragile (if a package with hard-drives gets dropped and lands too hard on the ground, there is a risk of damage). You could try other games besides The Sims 2, and see how they run. If you get similar problems there, it could be an indication that something's wrong in your hardware.

I also assume that you fully updated your Origin version of TS2 Ultimate Collection. If so, I don't think SecuROM could be the culprit, as it has been removed with the latest update.

Could also be something with the graphics settings. I don't have a link for it at hand right now, but feel free to google for "Sims 2 Graphics Rules Maker" and try using the tool to configure your game, to "fit" your graphics card.

Feel free to post back about your progress, and good luck!

Thank you for your reply. I've already been threw all the settings of the Graphics Rules and Video Card settings so that the game recognizes the graphics card and I've increased the texture memory and all that.

The things I've recently upgraded were the SSD, HDD, Memory and Graphics card of my computer. I had a 256 SSD I upgraded to a 500 SSD and I had to completely replace the 1TB HDD with another 1TB HDD. I had originally had The Sims 2 installed on the 1TB HDD and everything was fine...when I replaced the 1TB HDD I again installed it there. Didn't notice an issue with it until recently but the drive is still fairly new...less than 6 months old I would say. The graphics card I upgraded from an Nvidia Geforce GTX 745 to an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti. The memory I think I had 12GB which I had originally thought was 6GB x2 but it wasn't...for some reason they used 2 different sized memory sticks (1x8GB and 1x4GB)...I've upgraded it now to 28GB (The original sticks placed in the secondary slots and then 2x8GB)

I've only noticed the slow loading with The Sims 2. I also have a multitude of other games installed no issues...I always install games on the 1TB HDD for it has the space. It's my gaming drive now lol. The SSD I save for program files and the OS)

Normally you should use identical RAM modules, and not "mix up" different sizes or types. It could affect speeds and general system stability too. But if you say you don't experience any other issues for the moment, then I suppose you can maybe roll with it. I would definitely recommend though for the future that you use identical RAM modules, in all of your RAM-slots.

That aside, maybe I'll play myself TS2 again, and see how it runs. It's possible that one of these newer Windows updates did something. I myself updated to that new 1903-version, but suddenly my internet didn't work anymore, so I reverted back to that 1803-version.

You could still try and repair the game in Origin, but other than that I can't really give any other advice at the moment.

Your absolutely correct about the Identical ram modules and I've always stuck to that. When I purchased my computer it had been built and shipped with the 2 different ones. For now I threw those into the secondary bays but fully plan getting another 16GB in 2x8GB sticks so I'll have a total of 4x8GB. I have no idea why the company put two different ones in my computer to begin with. I wasn't happy about it...but as you said I plan on just rolling with it for now.

As for The Sims 2...I've already repaired the game and double checked all my settings (graphics rules/video card recognition etc.). I don't think it's exactly an issue with The Sims 2 or Origin after thinking about it only because after the game is launch the loading is really fast for me now. Even faster than it was before...I was actual shocked. So it plays really smoothly and there are Zero issues. It's just the program launching that is slow which could be something with Windows 10 accessing and launching the program (I do have 1903 Version).  I also just remembered I need to check the settings on my HDD so that it doesn't go to sleep...that might be an issue too...I think I had fixed this in the past but I had recently did a system redo (I do once in a blue moon to have a fresh start and clean out the craps)

Thank you for trying to help me and I'll continue to troubleshoot this.
