For all of those, like like me encountered not been able to place or use CC beds after the University pack. Problems: Sims will not use CC beds, not being able to place CC beds. Game crashes when trying to save a lot with CC beds, Sims will not whoo-hoo in CC beds, not being able to move a family to a lot which has a CC bed. Any of these or a mix of these issues have been reported after the University Pack installation. If you are like me and do not want to part with hard to find CC beds and your beds are separated (frames and mattresses) you are in luck. There is nothing wrong with the frames, the problems stem from mattress tuning, which changed. I found an updated separated mattress at MTS is Called Cobra Cabana deconstructed, which will let use use the mattress for all your unworking beds! Remember to delete all old bedding which has problems, if not you will get a crash when trying to upload a save in which a not working bed was used. I is confused

Hey @grieralexander, so I was firing up my Origin again, and trying to grab stuff from the Gallery again, and something "dawned" to me.

What if someone grabbed a Gallery (Tray) house in the past, which uses custom content? Does that custom content get installed to your Sims 4 game as well? And if so, where are these items located? In the Tray-folder, alongside the rest of the files associated with the lot?

Could this be part of the explanation why so many people get these crashes, too?

Actually, tray items are OK to an extend, provided you do not have the CC that does not work anymore installed. The way it works is that the game will replace items you do not own with VAnilla versions. The crashing problem is diverse from what I have been reading in the EA and Sims forums. For some the crash or last exception occurs as soon as they place such an item in their lot, for others when they try to save the lot and to others, when they try to move a family in. However, the culprit is always a CC item. For example, I worked for days on a modern huge build for my sims. No crashes, no problems, and I had already use the S4Studio Cheat to eliminate items which had over 195 bones; when I try to place my family it went back to the world choosing menu and I got a last exception I is confused . I took every piece of furniture and decor out and only then was I able to move the family in. I started placing everything back by room and saving, until I could recreate the crash: It was a rug! The game would let me place it, it doesn't have any bones asignment, and it looks fine. However, it makes the game crash, bad CC. With CAS is more complicated. I downloaded a Sims without CC, however, CC was used to make him. I ended up with a belt and CC sweat, that I do not have as CC in my game "ghost CC" and I could not remove it, because it isn't really there to remove, but it was saved with the Sim. In short, I will not worry about houses but I would worry about Sims. Maybe and this is a big maybe, something I threw at the EA forums is that maybe there is a lot of more CC being rejected by the game than just build/buy items, maybe this extends to skins and other CAS CC as well and the crashes occur when people are placing the Sims in the lot, because the game has to read everything as a whole once it is placed on the lot.
Like I mentioned in one of my posts here, the University Pack works just fine without CC. When CC gets placed in, the problems start. I have been testing by placing my tray files in and works great; all my problems and the ones I have been reading about are from people that have CC or a script mod they forgot about. There are mods out-there that have been updated on a daily basis since the Pack came out because they are still buggy.
My next step in reducing my CC count is to go into build and buy mod, place everything I do not use in a lot and then open Sims Tray importer to hunt down and get rid of some, the same for CAS. I've hoarded 50GB of CC and at some point during patches and Packages, some is bound to give me problems. So in the Sims 4 Game, less is actually more.
