The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
EA is asked about online play in The Sims
EA has alluded to the possibility of online play in The Sims series' future, saying that "social interaction and competition" will "start to become a part of The Sims experience in the years to come". This came during an EA earnings call, where CEO Andrew Wilson was asked about the idea of relaunching an online version of the game.
Wilson noted that The Sims is about to turn 20 years old, and discussed the idea of how the wider community enjoys comparing their creations in the game. The subject then turned to "The Sims for a new generation", with some discussion of how elements of The Sims Online could become part of the series down the line.
"And so as Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation across platforms in a cloud-enabled world, you should imagine that while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self improvement, motivations, that this notion of social interaction and competition, like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims FreePlay – sorry, in The Sims Online many, many years ago, that they will start to become part of the ongoing Sims experience in the years to come," Wilson said.
"We're very excited. This is a game that, it really doesn't have any competition in its category for delivering and fulfilling these motivations for players and we think it's a tremendous growth opportunity for us for many, many years to come." You can read the full transcript of the call here.

The Sims 5 Online?
Can we also murder other Sims, then? Will there be something like actual PVP, with other Sims?

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
I agree, I won't play an online Sims 5. I already stopped playing Sims 4. Recently downloaded to give it another chance but no. I'm done. Honestly I am waiting for Paralives' launch. I gave up on the Sims series. I am content with Sims 2 and 3.

I agree; The Sims is traditionally a casual game. Maybe you can do harmless pranks on other Sims, in an online mode. But I don't think there will be a violent element added~

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
One thing that should raise eyebrows for everybody following this, is: what else will be new in The Sims 5, besides "online play"? Will we see a re-surrection of freely-explorable worlds like in TS3? Will we see more "depth" in the gameplay and interactions with other Sims, for a lack of a better wording?
Because all that is being stated in this vague press statement is "online component". Which I've called many times before, such as here:
https://www.games4theworld.club/t35617-sims-4-university-crashes-with-cc-work-around?highlight=online+component#207774
No. That was just a logical assumption to make, with pretty much most mainstream games these days having an online component. And besides, if I could predict the future, I would predict the lottery numbers and then win. So where was I ... yes.
Another factor to take into account is their design of monetization. This model of consistent and overpriced DLCs ... that is rather outdated. I don't think they will drop it completely, but I'm calling it now: EA will introduce some element of micro-transaction/pay-to-play into the online scheme, in line with other online games. EA had something like that, with the monthly installations of "The Sims 3 store items", back then. Such a model was dropped for TS4 though, and some people speculate it may have to do with disappointing sales. But still, I bet it will see a comeback in The Sims 5, one way or another.
Take Fortnite or these other popular Battle Royale games for example. Everybody usually has the same combat abilities, but you can spend money on "Premium Character Skins", which are cosmetic upgrades only. For an average consumer it may not look like an effective way of monetization, but the psychological aspect of a skin "looking" to be cheaper than a full blown DLC (such as in The Sims 4), might lead to people not just buying one, but many skins. And multiply this by the number of people playing - or kids just using their parents' debit/credit cards - and you're going to swim in money.
GTA Online and Red Dead Online for example have a model of DLCs being downloaded and added to the game, with regular game updates. If you bought these games, they will simply be downloaded for free, as part of regular game patches/updates. But here's the thing: in order to use or interact with the newly-downloaded content, you need in-game currency, which is - legally - gained only two ways. Either by paying lots of real-life money ("micro-transactions"), or by spending loooooooooooots of time grinding repetitive tasks. I'm calling it again: some variation thereof will be introduced in The Sims 5. Maybe not exactly the way I described, but similarly.
I'm also curious about how they will design the game structure in general: my guess is it will be like SimCity 5, with both a singleplayer sandbox mode, and an online mode. Cracks are only available for the singleplayer portion, though.

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
I am all for an online Sims experience, if done right. Let's face it, the reason people are skeptical is because they have been jaded when it comes to things like this. I think people really do want better online gameplay communities like this if they are possible. But watch EA try to cash in on this and implement micro-transactions. We all know what's going to happen here. That will cause an uproar.

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
So what do you people think? After some consideration, I'm pretty sure that this will be an online/coop-title only. Yes, there will likely be some singleplayer-sandbox mode, but everything will be locked behind an "online-only wall". Rumors have been floating around that they (I mean EA) want to at least partially imitate Second Life.

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
@The_gh0stm4n That sounds like something EA would do at this point. What a shame to see this franchise falling this low, to be fair it was never the same after Will Wright left EA anyway.
I am basically done with the new Sims games, honestly I no longer care what they do with it. I doubt they can disappoint me anymore because I expect nothing from them, lol. I'll check a pirated version out but I highly doubt I'll end up buying it. I think a lot of people are pretty bored with the game as well, there used to be so much more traffic here when there was an expansion coming.
I will keep on playing Sims 2 and Sims 3 happily until the end of time.

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
I hear you and agree. Yesterday I read a piece in which a gamer did an oped to EA stating everything that supposedly had gone wrong with the game, as usual you have those who will defend EA no matter how bad this game gets. To prove my point on glitches I made a build and decorated it throughout and even got a Sim in it and took photos...; people wanted the build, with comments like OMG ! this is so beautiful! Will you share? LMAO, the build did not work, it had the glitch that pasrts of the ground disappear and the Sim seems to be floating on air, it had activities that were unrautable , but it looked good in photos So, I promised I would build a playable version. However, people want all those different heights, which end up glitching the game, afterwards.The_gh0stm4n wrote:So what do you people think? Sorry, did not know you had to have an account to see it. It is a good piece because Murfee and another CC creator go at pointing out Sims mishaps (sims 4) and this op-ed was sent to EA. They also talk about the hopes that paralives delivers as a possible competition.Freezer Bunny wrote:grieralexander wrote:Will try to find it on my tumblr and link you to it, since I reposted it, I liked it that much!

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
I'll actually go ahead and copy-paste this onto the Forum here:
Credits to that murfeelee person for writing that piece, I am merely reproducing it here for the G4TW community.
Good article overall, but one thing that makes me scratch my head somewhat is a very familiar pattern. Namely the wishful thinking that "[insert game here] will be the next $hit in terms of life simulation games". In this case, Paralives. After TS3 got its last update people were excited in a similar fashion, thinking TS4 "would be much much better". Well, I haven't seen any of these people in a very long time now.
I'm not saying you aren't allowed to dream anymore, and we'll indeed have to see what happens with Paralives. But I do have a feeling people's expectations are too high, and when Paralives fails to deliver these oftentimes unrealistic dreams, people will get (unreasonably!) angry, and then move on.
I'm sure by the way that Paralives will do a few things better than TS4. Then again, despite so many people seemingly getting excited already, TS4 is so bad that almost anything will be better, probably.
Addendum: I'm not sure what could be done better than in TS3, other than more modern/realistic graphics, more animations, stuff like that. But that would probably mean people have to invest in better PC hardware. Which is traditionally NOT what EA does with their games, unlike e.g. Rockstar Games with their hardware-hungry GTA V and RDR2. EA's stuff is traditionally usable on low-end PCs and your stereotypical supermarket-laptop. I'm not saying it is absolutely impossible, but given the past, it would be a big surprise if EA really decided to go for higher-end graphics and animations.
murfeelee wrote:Never say never, but AMR levels of hair physics? Where each strand moves? With every step your sim takes? And looks gorgeously realistic? In an EA Sims game? Never gonna happen.
EA didn’t even bother with alpha hairs like AMR & TS3 had in TS4 – the community had to mod them in! XD If EA even lazily attempted a half-arsed nudge in the hair physics direction, at BEST it would look more like Breath of the Wild, since it’s clayfied.
But let’s be real, this is EA we’re talking about: theirs would no doubt look more like WWE 2k20 (that utter ****), than any frikkin GOTY Zelda game. XDRANT ALERT INCOMING
EA couldn’t even do what Maxis did in TS2, with animated car doors & cabinet doors that open, let alone animated hair physics.
TS3 downgraded a lot of TS2 features (sims teleporting into cars rather than getting in and out of them with full animations), but leave it to EA in TS4 to just remove features entirely, instead of working to make them better, which is precisely why it’s 2020 and TS4 STILL doesn’t have any cars, 6 YEARS later. But that’s what happens when your game runs like the effing mobile game hack it is.
Yes, they have bikes in TS4 UNI now, but it’s very limited (kids can’t even use them without mods, as usual, with EA constantly ignoring Kids and Elders in this game ).
And EA did the same thing with TS4 hair. Rather than moving forward and doing something cool like adding hair physics, not only did TS4 not have physics, but it removed alpha hairs as well. (-‸ლ) The modders were QUICK to bring alpha hairs back, only to start this whole preference issue with Maxis Match versus Alpha CC that we never saw to this degree in TS2 or TS3. Back then it was just whether you were Pooklet or Nouk or Shockshame or whoever.
And so, be it alpha hair or cars, EA proves time and again that it would rather remove features wholesale, than deal with making them more technically improved or impressive. So I highly doubt alpha hair physics are happening. If they do, it will no doubt come at the cost of something we have now that we won’t anymore, going forward. (If anything, it might just be harder to assign bones/joints or something, IDEK).
But it just goes to show that EA’s Sims team is the literal embodiment of lazy uninspired complacent mediocrity. They are NOT pushing this franchise forward. Each game includes more & more downgrades, and with TS4 both the quality AND quantity of Expansions is lowering, WTF. In 4 years TS2 had 8 EPs, and in 6 years TS3 had 11 EPs. In 6 years, WHY does TS4 only have 8 – the same amount TS2 had in FOUR? Maybe stop cluttering up the roster with effing Stuff Packs and EXPAND this daggone game already! 🤬
EAxis is a AAA developer that mostly relies on the community to solve it’s problems for them – look at what NRAAS did for TS3 – hell, even EA’s Yibsims/Game Changer mouthpieces are usually big-name modders & UGC/CC creators (who get in trouble when they openly criticize EA games!).
EA has a whole team of paid professionals working for them, meanwhile Alex Masse is technically building Paralives by his daggone self, with like what? 2 other people? How many people did he hire to remodel the Parafolk? Doesn’t matter – he’s indie, and EA’s AAA, and look at the difference.
https://www.gameinformer.com/2019/08/15/why-paralives-is-looking-to-be-the-sims-new-rival
Granted, with all the hype around it, Paralives might well be another No Man’sSkyLie in the making, but I bloody doubt it.
Yes, I’m not a fan of the overall aesthetic of Paralives – I hate the look of TS4. The whole super saturated Lazy Town playdough clayfied gimmick is not my cup of tea, it really isn’t. (But the CAPABILITIES & POSSIBILITIES of Paralives is what has me gripping the edge of my dang seat.) It certainly wasn’t what I was expecting/hoping for with the direction The Sims was going in. I had hoped, in this day and age of next generation graphics & physics, that the next Sims game after TS3 would look more like Life is Strange or Uncharted 4.
Which is why it blew my mind when EA pitched the lower-end compatibility of TS4 as an actual selling point, that it would be able to run on 32-bit fossils, cuz people complained about the lag in TS3 needing higher end PCs to run.
Not to sound like a PC elitist (Consoles FTW!), but if I have to choose between an incredibly detailed and technically impressive game, or a game being downgraded to hell and back just to compensate for my crap computer, I’d rather save the HUNDREDS of dollars I’d spend on 8 EPs, 8 GPs & 16 bloody SPs and frikkin buy a better computer.
TS4 didn’t even stick with 32-bit, and dropped compatibility for it later on! So what was the point!? 🤬🤬
Yes, TS4 has better graphics than TS3 – at least as far as lighting/shading goes, I’ll give them that much, cuz the lighting in TS3 is a hot mess. HQ mods and Reshade go a loooong way to make the lighting/shading TS3 AND TS4 alike look much better, though Reshade’s not perfect either, cuz it effs with things like mirror reflections and sometimes hair textures.
EA only compounded TS3′s busted lighting issue with the GODAWFUL SKINS on Sims, that aged them up by at least a dang decade and made them look like effing meth addicts.
Not to mention, Asian sims were almost impossible to make. >_<
So praise the llamas for mods like CC skins, eyes, makeup, sliders, and normals mods like You Are Real.
And to this day, it’s kinda hard to find really good skins/makeup for highly melanated sims, with only a few TS3 CC sites really catering towards content for ethnic sims, rather than EA’s tiresome Caucasian default.
What would hair physics look like with black folks’ hair? Would EA even go that far, to make sure curly and thicker hairs had weight and bounce to it? I effing doubt it. It took EA for effing ever to even start including more content for black sims, like more afros, dreads, braids. Y’all remember this lazy cauliflower ****?!
So, with all of the emphasis put on how to make sims in THE SIMS look better, when TS4 was announced, I was expecting some crazy good hyper realistic texture & mesh improvements, I really was. U_U And while it was better in some places than TS3, the overall clayfied cartoony look just turned me off entirely. Paralives can look however it wants; it’s not a 20 year old AAA game. But from The Sims I expected more, and better.
And apparently, considering the fan speculation for TS5, people are looking forward to more photo-realistic graphics & physics as well? At least as far as googling The Sims 5 indicates.
So, who knows. Maybe in TS5 we’ll get hair physics, but please, EA has WAY more important things it needs to improve than whether or not the stupid hair moves.

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
I'm not crazy about the prospect of Maxis/EA coming out with a multiplayer Sims game unless it's strictly optional. I play The Sims as a way to escape sometimes because I get sick of people being in my face. I have many friends IRL but I enjoy my alone time and escapes from reality. And we all know that such a project would turn into a huge money-grab for EA anyway. In addition, a lot of the multiplayer features would probably be glitched and bugged AF because EA can't seem to get their ish together. SMFH.

Have you considered getting a punching bag, @Mynxie? Works wonders sometimes. Or doing some other physical exercise.

I have a suspicion it won't be optional. Everybody is talking about DRM-technologies such as Denuvo or similar things, while most overlook another aspect. Namely, that "online-only" is de-facto synonymous with "not-crackable".
In my opinion it doesn't make sense to go through the length of introducing an online-component in the first place, without ultimately putting the entire game behind that online-only wall. Then again, I may be overly pessimistic in that regard.
Time to get back to TS2 and TS3, then.

Yeah, I would much rather play throwback Sims games than to spend any money playing The Sims 5 online. I suspect The Sims 5 will go the way of Fallout 76 anyway, turning out completely lackluster and full of micro-transactions.

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
I'm gld you like the piece, I think that in general, exposes the sentiment of CC creators and modders to TS4. These guys ranting there are old school modders of the Sims. I think that modders will end up giving Sims 4 its fine tuning and realistic touches, if EA stops experimenting with the game to see what will work and what not in Sims 5. A friend says that there is so much un=needed coding in the game, thus most of the glitches and bugs, because yes, they are experimenting and people pay to be lab-rats. In my recent research for bugs and glitches, I've discovered so much stuff that EA has not fixed and just built upon, that I would not be surprise if the game became just for builders and people to pose and take photos. I've been working on a build for over a week, when it may take me just a couple of days, just navagating through the glitchy game. I've been in touch with many CC creator personal friends and we've dissected a piece of problematic CC (coffee tables and end tables). These people clone EA stuff, so bone assigments, which were changed and everything else should match, no problems. Then we move to slots and also, most match. So we've come to the conclusion that EA has done something with the tunning that the tools available to make such CC is not picking up or have not yet. A friend and I came to a conclusion that they may be experimenting on EA stuff not been able to be cloned, mesh over and sold as a stand alone item. However, we are continuing our research and I will let everyone here know as soon as we have tangible evidence on what the real problem is.The_gh0stm4n wrote:Mynxie wrote:I play The Sims as a way to escape sometimes because I get sick of people being in my face. I will keep on playing Sims 2 and Sims 3 happily until the end of time.
The Oldskool Sims games will still have value in the future, and not just on a nostalgic level. I see a lot of downloaders for the TS2 Origin Ultimate Collection here, for example, so that's very nice. And we'll have to see if we can do something on here as well, when - or if - Paralives comes out.
As for the rest, not everything was golden on here, "back in the days [of the old Admin and his staff]". In the early 2010s for example, you had a lot of people using this Forum to advertise their own & unrelated causes. Granted, the old Admin was a firm adherent of liberal & politically correct tenets, which he is entitled to, make no mistake. But what's more, if you open a platform, you can't immediately adopt a strict moderation policy. I guess I am the opposite, in that regard.
In the immediate aftermath of the old Admin leaving, this place was a total mess on so many levels. Eventually I ended up banning quite a lot of the "old people", or they left on their own. Not that any of them really added much value to the platform in the first place, but still. Usually their complaints boiled down to the policy of running download links through adverts (adfly/Linkvertise), which I've said many times, and I'll say it again, we will keep up no matter what. Some also pointed out the rather heavy-handed moderation. Which is also deliberate: I don't want people around here who do not fit our general 'mentality', or who just want to advertise their own (G4TW-unrelated) agendas.
The un-popularity of The Sims 4 certainly also plays a role here, but what I think is another major aspect, is the shift in attitudes towards piracy, both on a societal level and in terms of legal/political changes. These "ISP warning letters" for example weren't really a thing in the days of the old Admin. In fact, they didn't become frequent before the year 2015 (?) or so. Eventually some of the old users started arguing with us, but it is out of our hands. People need to use VPNs, or resort to direct downloads. And yes, people need to make an effort to inform themselves. Sometimes I seriously ask myself what these people use the damn smartphones for? If you get my 'spin'.
Differences in administration aside, you can't really compare the early 2010s with the early 2020s (and the time beyond).

Re: The Sims 5 is actually coming with new features!
@The_gh0stm4n
I am happy Sims 2 is getting more downloads, I think that video of a youtuber, can't remember the name now, comparing the Sims 2&3&4 is the reason for that and thank him for it. I am glad the new generation realizes that there was something better before Sims 4 so they can ask for better things and not settle with what they got.
I found this site in 2016, joined in 2017 I think by that time a lot of the "old people" you refer to were gone so I never met them, probably. I do remember even then though there were one or two people that caught my eye that can be one of the old guys you are talking about but I dunno. So I am comparing what I've noticed for the last 4 years.
Anti-piracy attitude seems to be rising in the "West" side of the world and in where I am we got bigger problems than a few pirated games so it's the same since I was a kid. I do notice in the younger generation here though with Steam and online access stuff they tend to buy the games more but they always pirate and see if it's good first. For me I buy it if I like it but the trouble with the new games for me is the DRMs. I really hate it that I have to log into Steam, Origin or whatever the hell they use to play a game. So I don't buy new games anymore because of that stupid piracy protection stuff. This is going off topic though.
Those ISP warning letters though, do they really have follow ups or are they only trying to scare kids?
