Hey mates, it's m4dm4m again, bringing you some news if you don't know about this already, or have heard about it but haven't tried it.

I highly recommend Xlink Kai for its support for tunneling to other users in the world of modded console gaming. First off, it supports the Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, and PSP (ad-hoc multiplayer through the internet). This is great for users who want to play that copy of Halo 3 or Gears 2, but don't necessarily have a legit console or legit game. Great thing about the Xlink software, it runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Basically, go to the xlink website, www.teamxlink.co.uk, create an account, download the version for your OS, join a room (similar to chatrooms of back in the day) or an arena (think tournaments), or create your own room and host your own game, and play.

Download Xlink Kai Evo VII here, http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=download

I have used it since the days of XBMC on the original Xbox, but less recently due to my passion for PC gaming. Every once in a while, I jump on in Halo and pwn some ass with "sn!pr piztuls", but haven't had that urge in a long time, who knows when that urge will hit again, but I know many people here could probably use it more than myself.

A collective games list for arenas and multiple systems that are supported: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=games

And now, some issues and limitations:

1. There is no ranking system for most system link games. Pretty much, you play anyone, this can be cheaters, extremely skilled death machines, total noobs, etc.

2. Xbox 360 users have to deal with Microsoft's combat system that tries to kill this service. You can't have a ping of anything over 35 milliseconds, so that limits your coverage to pretty much a local area, but in some countries, there are a lot of people using this service, and if not, get the word out. Other consoles don't have this issue.

3. PS3 users don't have a reliable way to run backups. Yet. But it allows you to system link on games with people from other areas in other parts of the world, granted the game supports cross region play or all users are using the same region games.

4. PSP users require either a modified router or an accessory created by team Xlink located here, on Amazon or eCost to get online ad-hoc gaming going.

5. Only 3 games are supported for the Gamecube. I know, cry in silence...

6. No Wii support. Yet.

7. 360 users having trouble, look here.

8. Headset support is very limited in system link, but there is hope if you are near your computer (ie, same room), xlink supports headset communication from the client itself using the Speex codec. I recommend investing in a bluetooth dongle and a bluetooth headset (Plantronics 310 is dirt cheap and works OK for a cheap solution). You have to start a chat from the program itself, but once connected, it will keep running during the duration of the session.

9. I am not tech support, consult the wiki at xlink, their faq, or forums.

10. Enjoy the awesomeness of free "online" gaming. Since it's not Xbox Live, you don't quite get the same experience, but Xlink is usually better than paying that yearly subscription and worrying about getting your modded console banned.

Enjoy, have fun, and talk the most shit ever in a Halo match in HALO 1 ONLINE!!!!! A win for everyone. Online gaming with modded consoles (system link through the internet) using Xlink Kai. Icon_twisted
