Expansion Installation Problems - Any Help

First I would like to point out that I have read both the mac installation guides provided on this site and I have tried to follow the instructions on there but I am still having problems so any suggestions you guys might offer would be very much appreciated. I own the Sim 3 base game and also the Generations expansion pack. From this site I have downloaded several expansion and stuff packs. The only way I can run the installer is by creating a new image in disc utility and pasting all the info in there, is that the way everyone else has done it? Also can I delete this disk image once I have installed to save space?

I have uninstalled all the sims games, I initially tried to just install the expansion packs on top but just received an error saying I should de-bug and the game doesn't open. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the base game without updating (as I understood from the guides you apply the update and patch downloaded from here once you have installed all the expansions) and I managed to install a couple of the expansion packs, but the others wouldn't install as it it said that the Sims 3 version was not updateable and not compatible. I then tried to update the game so I could install the other expansion packs and no matter how many updates I installed, it always informed me that an update was available. Then everything went downhill as the world of adventures expansion was trying to open and was just closing again so I couldn't even uninstall the sims and had to restart my mac.

So now I have nothing installed. I was just wondering what has worked for you guys in terms of updating the base game and whether world adventures, pets and showtimes are working on your macs. Is there any order in the expansions that you found to work and do you think I should install generation first or last as I have the disc.
