Question about the new Diesel stuff pack

As soon as I was about install the stuff pack it said I need to update my game, but I remembered what happened the last time I installed a new patch without checking here first I messed up my whole game. Anyway, my question is do I need to wait for the fix before I install the Diesel pack? The install calls for the update when I tried to install, but I read in a post that you can install the pack without the fix and it should work but how can that be when u need the fix for the game to work properly.
