Textures messed up after birthday

Hello,
I have the sims 3 installed on my computer, with the pets and world adventures expansions.
Everything was working fine, untill one of the kids ahd a birthday and became a teen. Somehow that birthday messed up the textures bigtime
It's like her face texture spread over her entire body.
Not only that, but the shading on my other sims became weird: the shadows on the sims became dark and hard edged, and show up in weird places (like the center of my horses feathered legs). Highlights appear to be more glossy too.
I've tried just quitting the game and restarting it from before it was messed up, but it just happened again. I've tried removing all my downloads and restarted then, but it happened again.
I've tried using the reset sim cheat, which doesn't help.
There are absolutely no problems in the create a sim area if I try to change her outfit to see if that helps. Everything there looks fine, until I go back to playing, where the textures remain like this.
I've had this before (before I had downloaded and installed any new items) when I wasn't that far in the game, and I reinstalled the game then, which apperantly only solves it temorarily.
I've tried to find others with the same problem, but the search failed (so if there is a thread about it out there I must have missed it >.>)
I'm afraid I have no idea how I can find out what graphic card I'm using >.>
Any help would be much appreciated <3

Hello,
I've never seen this problem, I'm sure.
At this point I'd suggest letting the game create a new "The Sims 3" folder. To do that, go to (My) Documents\Electronic Arts and rename the The Sims 3 folder. Now start the launcher and a new one is generated. You can now copy your saves from the renamed folder to the new one and see if there's any difference.
I've never seen this problem, I'm sure.

Nope, no custom skins, and no mac. It's a PC equipped with windows xp, and the compatability tester shows all in favor.

Hello,
Ok, find out which graphicscard you have, you can find this out by right clicking on your desktop and bringing up the properties. Your graphics card make and model can be found under the "settings" tab.
Once you know which card you have, find out if it needs drivers. You can do that by going to the manufacturers website, they often have a tool you can use to find out.

Found the card, and the drivers. Latest driver was already installed. After reinstalling the problem shifted from my main sims to neigbours (and only a few). It's a lot more playable this way 
I guess this means the prolem is indeed somewhere in the graphics card? I'll get my brother to take a look at it >.>
