avast
For some months i was having trouble with my sims 3 crashing to a blue screen - not nice! I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, looked everywhere for the heart of the problem but was unable to find a solution, until my virus detector updated. It slowed my computer to a crawl and I lost my sims game which I had to reinstall again after removing avast. I put Microsoft security essentials on my computer and since removing avast, I have had no crashes and all runs perfectly. I had no idea my virus progam could be the culprit. MSE also found trojans that avast did not pick up. Relieved? You betcha! So I thought i would post this here just in case anyone has similar problems and may look at such situations.

Re: avast
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your solution!
That's pretty odd indeed. Maybe it was actually caused by the virus?

Re:avast.
We thought so too, but it never interfered qwith anything else - no other games were infected nor any programs. Thank you for your reply.
