more info about this secuROM thing?
This is not a general problem as much as personal, but when I install the basic game (of the sims), they talk about secuROM in the Terms and Conditions. I understand that I'm violating these conditions anyhow so I don't know why I'm reading it but the secuROM part got me to step back a little. I admit, I had no idea what the **** it was before I had done some research, but after getting the general idea, I'd rather not have that shit on my computer.
So, since I'm not a actually a professional in any of these things, I'd like to know if the games4theworld version of the game actually includes secuROM and if so, how will that affect my (and my computer's) life?

Hello,
SecuROM is not a piece of software or something. It's a security measurement used in, for example, DVD's. This way you can't copy them or play a game without the original game disc, in case of game DVD's.
A crack bypassesthis security measurement, so you can play the game without a disc. (Note: NoCD cracks are legal by law, as long as you own a personal copy of the game)

Re: more info about this secuROM thing?
So does that mean securom will just be ignored and shouldn't cause me any problems?
I'm sorry if I'm being stupid. I just wanna know what I'm agreeing to by installing this game

Hello,
What kind of problems, for example?
We've got thousands of users using pirated The Sims 3 games here; no one ever had such problem.

Re: more info about this secuROM thing?
Some people say it prevents some games from launching, that it's invasive (hard to fully remove from the computer), that it causes some malfunction in programs like Daemon Tools. While most of that is probably just people getting their panties twisted over any measures taken against piracy, there are probably some grounds on the lawsuits (arstechnica.com/gaming/2008/11/ea-hit-with-two-more-lawsuits-over-use-of-securom/) EA has gotten.
Also, here's what the wiki article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SecuROM) has to say:
But I guess I'm just being overly cautious. The more I look into this the more it seems like just a bunch of butthurt people being vocal over things that don't go together with their own agenda. I think as long as secuROM doesn't stalk me or do changes to my system without my permission*, it's all fine.
*which admittedly some people claim it does, but a grain of salt.
Also, here's what the wiki article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SecuROM) has to say:
- SecuROM may not detect that the original game disc is in the drive. This can occur on virtually any configuration, and reinserting the disc or rebooting the computer usually resolves the problem.[8]
- Under Windows Vista, SecuROM will prevent a game from running if explicit congestion notification is enabled in Vista's networking configuration.[9]
- Software that can be used to bypass copy protection, such as disk drive emulators and debugging software, will block the launch of the game and generate a security module error.[8][10]Disabling such software usually fixes the issue, but in some cases uninstallation is required.[8]
- SecuROM conflicts with other software, the best-known being SysInternals' Process Explorer (prior to version 11). Use of Process Explorer before an attempt to run the protected software would produce an error caused by a driver that was kept in memory after Process Explorer was closed. This is solved by either ensuring that Process Explorer is not running in the background when the game is launched, or updating Process Explorer.[8][11]
- SecuROM has a hardware-level incompatibility with certain brands of optical drives. Workarounds exist.

Hello,
Lol! No, no, SecuROM isn't a type of virus or something, it's just a type of protection.
It won't do anything bad to your PC, I'll assure you that!
