Can't update to 1.42

This has happened to me before and last time I just used the manual patch and everything was okay, but it says on the manual update page for Mac users to not use the manual patch so idk what to do..

After I put all the files in the right places and try to update it via the game launcher, it says things have been modified and won't let me. I read somewhere that if I install seasons it will just automatically update me to 1.42, well I tried and an error message pops up and says my version of sims is not updatable and that it cannot install Seasons.

The game won't update because it sees what I assume to be cracked files. If you have the ultimate fix, then apply the "Base game" exe files as per instructions (step 3 I think?), which are the uncracked ones. Then you should be able to update and then complete the last step, which is applying the files from the "# Crack" folder.

The wording above may not be so clear, so if you are in doubt, then just do the whole ultimate fix!

As I said in the original post I've done everything in the Ultimate Fix, it still will not let me update the game at all

Oh you did, too. My bad! Hmmm. Shit. I've patched my sims manually and it seems to be working OK. Try that!

I'm not sure why they've said manual patching is bad for mac, as I'm pretty sure the launcher just downloads the same file we would use when manually patching, anyway.

So you have a mac as well and you applied the manual patch update?

Yup. It did crash first time I launched but that was because I installed it without disabling my mods. I disabled them and now it's fine (I will re-enable each one to see which one caused problems later).

It says "not recommended" but I have used it (with Seasons, even) and it fixed everything up properly. I always get those errors that you've described so I avoid patching the game through the launcher and just get my patches here.
